Poll question: I saw War of the Worlds today. Will you see it?
I went and saw War of the Worlds this afternoon. I went under duress because I hadn't intended to go~ I did not want to contribute $ to the Tom Cruise psychot-a-thon... but, I caved. (I'll pretend my $ went to Steven Spielberg, Dakota Fanning & Tim Robbins) :silly:

In any event.... I REALLY liked it! It was very good- held my interest the entire way through. In fact, I was never able to get up and go to the bathroom because there was no "lull" in the story.
I'd see it again.

Will you be seeing it?

13. Serious Question: Did you actually not know the Ending of it already?
Edited on Fri Jul-01-05 12:51 AM by VTMechEngr
Its the war of the Worlds. 1898 Book by H.G. Wells. This is like the 4th remake. The book had the same quiet ending.

19. yeah, but it sucked way, way, way, worse then the first movie. it kinda
reminded me of the way speilberg ended jurassic park. if you read the book you knew there was a lot more of the story left.

him as an actor.

4. I hear ya- that was my original intent
but I will say now, having seen it in the theater, it was well worth the $6.50

The effects & camera shots were really good. And that Dakota Fanning?

7. Saw it and though it was suspenseful in parts...
it was hard to take Tom Cruise seriously as a working class kind of guy. I also got tired very quickly of Dakota Fanning screaming in almost every scene. Why is it only girls who scream in movies?

The ending is nothing but pure Velveeta, IMHO. Reminded me of the father/son scene at the end of Day After Tomorrow...

Oy vey!

I've seen Revenge of the Sith seven times but will see WOTW once. I want to see Sith again.

8. I'm not going to see it.
Why?

Tom Cruise is in it.

But it's not because he thinks an alien lives inside him, it's not because he's acting like he's doing speed lately, it's not because he's getting creepier and creepier by the day.

It's because I've felt for years that he can't act for shit. He's just TOM CRUISE in every movie he's in. It's like he's fucking phoning it in. A lot of big name actors do that, and I don't like them, either.

So no, not going to see it. The very fact that he's in it would ruin it for me.

9. Usually I love Spielberg's Stuff
but on the other hand as a person with a "chemical imbalance" I am totally offened by Cruise and don't want to support him in any way no matter how small.

So still don't know what I am going to do yet.

10. Won't see it for the same reason I won't see "Cinderalla Man"...
Edited on Fri Jul-01-05 12:20 AM by Lindsey
I just can't bring myself to support Tom Cruise or Russell Crow because of the damage they've done. However, I won't judge anyone for doing so because I understand the concept of separating the artist from the art.

i could give a shit about tom cruise but i seriously do not understand all this psychotic babble about him or what he does in his otherwise private life.

20. You'd think he's governer of CA or something
Sheeeeesh...

Anyway, the movie was cool, except that one scene went on too long (I trust you know which one), and the ending made me wince. But that's the kind of sappiness I expect from Spielberg anyway.

Favorite line: "We need to come up with a plan that doesn't involve a 10-year-old girl joining the army!"

14. Not going to see it because I liked the original too much
and by the trailers, it does not seem to be an improvement.

16. It is a mMASSIVE improvement on the original.
It pays homage to the 50s version, but brings back the scare factor in a big way.

As nice a film as the original is, it's pretty hard to take the phony effects and ridiculous sound seriously in this day and age.

BTW, the trailers don't represent the film well at all. Spielberg keeps the best stuff out of the trailers.

17. It depends on what you want out of a movie.
Some folks like to be scared, which is fine by me, in theory. BUT, I don't like to be scared. I loved the cheesy special effects in the original because it just screams "This is a movie, let's be silly."

One day might see this one when it comes out on video... Spielberg is a great director and I love Science Fiction, but I don't like Cruise. However, it occured to me that maybe he would do alright because he really believes in aliens, right?

...with the boyfriend and my Mom, who loves these kinds of thrillers. I can't wait, I'm hoping I'm not psyching myself up so much that I'm disappointed. :)

25. I've neve been a Tom Cruise fan
I also have a mental illness that my medication cocktail keeps under control. It pissed me off when he went off against Matt Lauer he kept going on about how he'd studied the field of psychiatry and anti-psychotic drugs. He slammed people who take medications that improve and give their lives back and I don't appreciate it.
