Green Day
Edited on Wed Jun-29-05 08:18 PM by BullGooseLoony
This new album. It was odd because when the single "American Idiot" first came out, it was before the election (IIRC) and I was like, hey, that's cool. Nice little gimmick, maybe not something I'd play in front of my family. But good, definitely.

Then I heard Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and my ears started perking up. There was something very real, there. And the radio started playing ads for the concert that they were having near here two or three months in advance. I still didn't understand at that point.

But then I downloaded the entire album. This album is BRILLIANT. "Jesus of Suburbia" is an ANTHEM. I can't get enough of it. Just a great album. I find myself craving that song, and the album. I listen to it all the time. I even saw them perform it on the Late Late Show or whatever it is with Carson Daly. Amazing.

I wish I'd gone along with it when my girlfriend suggested buying tickets. But I just had no idea what they had here.

I'm just really surprised. I always thought they were alright. But they've really got something here. They were always alternative- but they're suddenly legitimate, and RIGHT. Reminds me of Rage Against the Machine, which I had always thought was just conspiracy theory stuff, as far as the lyrics, before the summer of 2002. But it wasn't.

It's weird to see people coming from an "alternative" role and suddenly taking a LEADERSHIP role. That's what I feel like they're doing. They're leading.

2. They're taking a LEADERSHIP role...isn't that fucking FASCINATING?
They were ALTERNATIVE! It was as if they deferred to the mainstream, before...but this time around, no. They knew they were right. And they made it clear, through the music and the lyrics.

It's just amazing to see how they've changed, and what they're offering us now.

3. I play Green Day OFTEN and LOUD. Love 'em.
I'm 52 and Green Day reminds me of the spirit of the '60's - only SMARTER.
