We Just Saw the "Law and Order" where Sabrina Gets Fired,... |
|
...and she asked if it was because she was a Lesbian.
Was there ever any mention of that in previous episodes?
Maybe my L&O radar if really bad, because I never picked up on the relationship between Jack and Claire. I only learned about THAT when a ken starr clone questioned McCoy about it later.
Does anybody know if the actress who played Sabrina is gay?
Just curious.

The episode was derided for that last minute out of the blue thing. Some critics viewed it as another example of how the L&O franchise doesn't really deal well with character development.

4. That used to be the point of L&O |
|
It was entirely story driven. You never got any backstory on the characters. I liked that.
But when McCoy became the focal character, that changed a little

7. Yes, let's treat a important component of her life as a throwaway line. |
|
Dick Wolf is a dumbass. I stared almost openmouthed when I found that bit of news about Sabrina at the very last minute of the episode...just as her character left the show.

12. She might come back... |
|
...like McCoy's other assistant who came back as a judge on "Trial By Jury".
If would be great if Sabrina came back as a strong defense attorney - a new nemesis for McCoy.

5. No, they never mentioned it |

Although, in nearly every episode of that season, she was leaning to the left on controversial issues. I guess that means that all liberal women are lesbians.

She was the blonde assistant to McCoy. I can't remember any of the female assistant's names either, nor the new detective played by Dennis Farina. Lenny Briscoe's name will be stuck in my head for the rest of my life! I might end up naming a dog after him someday.
I've read that Dick Wolf purposefully does not reveal many details of the characters' background lives specifically because he wants the focus to be on the case at hand. So supposedly when a detail like this is revealed it's a "bombshell".
When we heard it, my fiance and I just looked at each other and went, "Huh?"
It ended up being a dud because since there are no other bits of dialog or scenes to support the character being homosexual and there were no other episodes, scenes or even idle discussion centered around her home life or a significant companion. It just turned out to be an arbitrary detail that lead nowhere.

16. For days after my SO and I watched that episode, |
|
we had fun with that.
Him- "Well, I'm going to hop in the shower." Me- "Want me to join?" Him- "No, I want some hot water, my back hurts." Me- "Is it because I'm a lesbian?" Him- "NO {Serious Face}"
hehehe. With just everyday random stuff.
Anyways, he and I had the same reaction. "Huh? Did I hear that right?"
And then we laughed hysterically and turned the N64 on.

We talked about that here the first time this episode aired. No one here remembered her ever mentioning she was a lesbian. She is an obvious liberal, but no hint as to her sexuality.
There wasn't any relationship between Jack and Claire. Jack had a prior realtionship with another asst DA and Claire had an affair with a law professor or a judge (can't remember which) but they were only colleagues to each other.

21. It came out before that |
|
There was another woman lawyer who was an old flame of Jack's, and she asked Claire if she was sleeping with Jack, and Claire said, "Yes."
But that seemed just as "tacked on" as the other woman being a lesbian, because you didn't get those kinds of vibes from them. If they were lovers, they showed remarkable self-control--no sly glances, no surreptitious hand holding, no embraces even when they were alone...

and it is very apparent in certain episodes. The episode where she dies, she is on her way to pick up a very drunk Jack McCoy at a bar. McCoy doesn't wait for her--he says "screw her," to Lenny Briscoe, who Claire then gives a ride home to. Lenny is passed out drunk in the back of her care when she is hit by a car and dies.
ETA--The episode starts off when the entire cast goes and witnesses an execution--so they all go a little haywire. I think Ray Curtis goes and has a one-nighter.....

14. I think it was originally written as: |
|
"Is it because I am a thespian?", but they didn't want to get too controversial so they changed it at the last minute.
