Gotta love the Smothers Brothers |

on the 75 years of CBS tonight. I guess they become the latest "traitors". :bounce::bounce::bounce:

1. The CBS News division segment actually choked me up a bit. |
|
Cronkite sent chills up my spine, and the montage of coverage over the years blew my mind. Dan Rather looks so sad.
CBS was the news of record for the 20th century. We should be so lucky these days.

Bringing up Dan's report from Dallas still makes him understandably shaky. Cronkite looked a little nervous on stage. He scared me a little because at first he looked a little frail but I think he had the gitters a little.
There is some very good footage of the early drama and theater productions. Interesting stuff.

5. Too short - should do two hours on CBS News |
|
12 years old when JFK assassinated - and it's like yesterday. So much else is, too. Wish CBS would do a two hour retrospective just on their newscasts. Now, that would be fair and balanced - and important.

11. Agree... I'd love to see the news retrospective... |
|
BTW, though this is supposedly live, the news piece just aired in Denver, so I guess it is on tape delay?

4. The best I can tell (bear with me) |
|
Tommy begins telling the audience that there was a survey conducted and it concluded the more power people had the more clothes they wore. Dick asked him to repeat which he did. Tommy said people like you and me wear less clothes and the survey regards them as lessons. Dick asked ehat they call the people in power. Dick answered that they call the people in power morons.
The audience was VERY receptive.

6. ahhhhh. LESSons and MOREons. LOL |
|
(In case anyone else took as long as I did to "get it". ) Saw the Smothers Brothers live in Sacramento back in the 60's. Their humor has aged gracefully.

7. Love the Smothers Brothers |
|
Watched them from the get go, in 1967. Too bad "Survivor" and crap like that is what TV is all about today. "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" was GREAT television. Thanks, Tom and Dick.

9. I don't think I missed a show of theirs. |
|
They really tested the waters and were so cool back then. I agree wholeheartedly with you. We could use a SB Comedy hour today more than ever. How many times can the possibly clone Survivor and The Bacholer?

12. I used to own Dickie Smother's '67 Vette |
|
Really. White '67 327/350 w/factory air. Great car - sold it to a guy in NYC about 7-8 years ago. I still have a bottle of Smothers Brothers wine that I got when I bought the car.

15. They were on the Bonnie Hunt show a couple of weeks ago |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-02-03 11:08 PM by gbwarming
as contractors remodeling a house. It was great to see them!
Look for the rerun.
Edit: The show is "Life with Bonnie" ABC
"Everything Old Is New Again" Air Date: 10/10/2003
At the end of her rope with houseguest David, Bonnie pays a visit to David's home to speak with the contractors - played by the Smothers Brothers - who agree to get the job done faster if they can appear on "Morning Chicago."
There was a classic Smothers Brothers musical number at the end.

16. "The people running the country are morons" Tommy |
|
"We're gonna get fired again." Dick
I think that was fairly close. Hilarious. They were the greatest. Totally irreverent and outspoken.
