Kitty problem--not eating
Amanda is 15 now, and has a "cold" of some sort with wheezing, sneezing and nasal discharge. And she won't eat. I even offered her a can of tuna fish, and she wouldn't eat it. Suggestions?

I may end up having to bring her to the vet by Friday if she isn't better, but if I can get her to eat, I won't have to worry about that.

3. Take her to the vet...

....but you could try Baby Food, like Gerber's - chicken or some meat.

5. At her age you shouldn't let something like this go
for more than 24 hours without seeing the vet.

6. Get her to a vet!
In 2003 my dog had symptoms similar to those -- sneezing, wheezing, not eating. Our vet found a huge-fast-growing cancerous tumor filling her upper jaw. Unfortunately it was too big and far gone to treat, so my poor doggie was put to sleep.

A few weeks before she died, she started sneezing occasionally. We thought nothing of it. Then she got an eye discharge and stopped eating. The tumor was pushing on the eye, causing the discharge.

I hope whatever is ailing your kittycat is nothing serious, but just in case, get it checked out. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for her.

7. Baby food.
We feed our senior cat turkey flavor every day. He doesn't eat much of the normal cat food, but he LOVES the baby food.

9. A blood test is definitely in order
When a cat stops eating, that's not good news, and at Amanda's age, don't take any chances. I would take her to the vet even if she starts eating again, just to be safe. A sick cat makes for an endless weekend. Blood work will reveal much of what is going on inside her.

10. Let her eat some grass.....
When my cat doesnt eat, although he is young, he will eat grass. For some reason it has helped in the past. He eats some grass, throws up, and then gets better. It may be worth a try, but I would definetely take her to the vet as well.

I hope she is okay.

11. To the vet with you two stat!
At her age, you can't afford to 'wait and see!' If my hearty eating 16 1/2 year old quit eating, I could bet she'd be sick.

Please don't wait. Make sure Amanda's OK. You would never forgive yourself if you didn't.

12. Kitty not eating can be a serious problem
Their liver basically starts to eat itself after a few days of not eating. She may just not be able to smell her food because of her cold. When that happened to Plato earlier this year, we fed him wet food straight out of the can, but holding it up to his nose so he wouldn't have to bend down and have all that mucus run down into his face. It worked well enough to get him over the main part of the cold. We still took him to the vet though.

Good luck with Amanda...please give her a scratchie for me! :hi:
