So, I thought "War of the Worlds" was pretty good! |
|
We don't see the old positive movies from Steven any more, though. Everything recently has been pretty bleak and dark.

1. The special effects in War of the Worlds was top notch, but |
|
the story itself I thought was rather cheesy.
Also, there were no memorable characters, and hardly any memorable lines.
I do have to admit though that I liked Tim Robbins character. He had a great line something along the lines of: "Occupation forces always lose."

Occupations never work.
The whole audience at my theater laughed, and you could hear whispers of * throughout the crowd!
I enjoyed it too - some holes in the storyline but hey - I went to see a summer action flick about aliens, and got exactly what I wanted. I thought it was a great time.

3. I thought it was ok too |
|
There were two things I hated though:
1) Dakota Fanning shouldn't have been in the movie. NO KIDS should have been in the movie really, but I can deal with OK kids. But Dakota Fanning is too much. Too much screaming, too much acting like a bad actor. BLECH!!
2) The "solution" is absurd. I know this is H. G. Wells' solution, but fuck, it's only the biggest plot hole in any story ever written. What kind of alien society would plan an invasion of a planet without checking to see if they'd get sick first!?
