Poll question: How many accidents have you had while riding a bike?
Edited on Wed Jul-06-05 10:44 PM by Bouncy Ball
Just curious. Optional part not on the actual poll: how many times have you fallen and injured your face? In other words, you did NOT throw out your hands to protect your face? I'm not talking about something you didn't see coming, like a baseball that flies into your temple or something, but an accident you know is happening a second or two prior.

On edit, in my original question, I mean bicycles, not motorcyles.

1. Just one. Ever. And, I even rode my bike across Iowa once.
And the one time was because I was making a sharp turn and hit some sand in the road - I went down and struck the side of my head.

Bike riders do fall, but they don't usually ride OVER people.

15. I don't know.
I've road on icy roads, snowy and sandy roads, rocky, tree rooty trails, steep hills, and congested city streets. I've even bushwhacked through the woods on no trails at all.
I've wiped out for all kinds of reasons including being hit by a bus and of course I've been cut of by many a car.

But I've never, never, never even hurt my face at all.

I get the feeling that certain people shouldn't even ride on stationary bikes.

3. I wrecked my ten speed when I was a freshman in high school
I was cruising the neighborhood after school, went to make a turn, and I turned right into an off duty cop's car. He stopped and jumped out, saying "Did I hit you?" over and over. I said "No, I think I hit you." The bike was new, and I was more worried about it, and the fact that I couldn't feel my right leg. He asked me if he could take me home, but I declined, saying that I lived close by. He said, "But, your elbow!" My elbow? Ah shit, my left elbow had NO skin for about a three inch space. The bike was ok, I got on and pedaled home using one foot. For years, I could see the scar on my elbow, but it's gone now. (The leg turned out OK too.)

No, my face was not injured, and I was 14 at the time.

4. I almost always stuck the front tire somehow,
and went over the handlebars. Hell, yeah, I hurt my face.
And when the garbage truck ran over me at a turn, I hurt my leg.

5. Congrats to all of you who had one or none!
I was a rider when my husband had a chopper a LONG time ago. WE never had any accidents, but hubby (when I wasn't on the bike thank God) had to drop the bike once to avoid hitting some idiot who pulled out in front of him.

I have 2 sons who ride. One has a Harley, lives in Sicily, and has had 2 accidents.

The other son lives here in Ga. He used to have a sport bike and had 21 accident with it. He sold it, got married, and years later, is riding an OLD Intruder! He has had no incidents in the last 10 years!

My brother in law has a Harley. He's 66. He's had 2 accdents and had to be life flighted in both! He has now said, he's selling the bike. he thinks the 3rd time's the charm (or death!).

11. Nothing that could compare to what * did
When I was living in another state on a summer assignment, I biked to work. One day as I was riding this dog ran right under my wheel as I was riding downhill. Bang! I fell off the bike. This was in the days before helmets and I learned how not to fall on my head. Slightly banged up, but my front wheel was toast. Ended up walking the rest of the way to work.
