The rich here are all crack dealers, and the reason the houses are so expensive is that they're all crack houses and only the crack dealers can afford them.

And that's just for starters...

When we're not getting blown to bits by Santa Anna winds and floods the blazing hot sun is scorching the earth and spreading skin cancer throughout the populace, our kids on surf boards are getting their legs chewed off by sharks, earthquakes are shaking our houses to the ground and turning businesses into rubble, the annual forest fires are getting closer and closer to the ocean, the numerous military bases are enforcing an undeclared martial law on the entire county and everyone not already owning an SUV is being forced to buy a Hummer H2, and all the politicians are graduates of the Duke Cunningham School of Ethics and only Republicans are allowed to vote and anyone with a Dean For America bumper sticker is considered roadkill, and wherever you go out for dinner everyone around you sounds like Rush Limbaugh.

And $500,000.00 buys you a shoebox to live in.

But that's just the mild stuff.

You're better off in Tijuana - it's much, much safer.

13. I lived in El Cajon for 2 years

It was not that bad. But I am glad we got out before the Electricity rates went sky high. San Diego is a great place to live if you find the right spots just like any other city. I enjoyed the time I was there. I loved going down to Coronado and watching the ships come in and the planes take off. I worked across the 52 from Mirimar. I loved watching the jets come and go, My wife I went to the Air Show there every year. It was great. The San Diego Zoo was neat to go to, but man did I get a work out. The only thing I never did and wanted to do was stay at the Hotel Del for a night or two. That is a neat place.

I find the fire and mud slides rather scary but it's all what you're used to, and folks in California stand aghast that we tolerate all these tropical storms and hurricanes on the Gulf Coast. If you have an overall nice climate and nice area, even if it has a few problems, the people keep on coming and driving up the price of real estate and creating a traffic hazard. :-(

Edited to note: the real traffic hazard here isn't the increased number of vehicles on the road as more and more people move here over the years.

The real traffic hazard is all the cell phone addicts behind the wheel. They're friggin' nuts. You don't have to be on a road or a freeway to get hit by one of those junkies - they'll clip you in a parking lot as well. They're almost never paying attention to where they're going.

It really scares me how haphazardly people drive while focused on trying to retrieve their cell phones or in the midst of conversation.

own city, and is not part of the City of San Diego.

Carmel Valley, where I live, part of the city of San Diego, is adjacent to the eastern border of Del Mar. Carmel Valley, in fact, used to be called Del Mar Highlands.

La Jolla is also part of San Diego County but not part of the City of San Diego.

I moved out here from New York State a few years ago. San Diego is a lot better on paper.

I DID move from a place where Peter King was my congressman to a place where Duke Cunningham now is. I blame myself.
