Most over-rated songs
Do you agree with this list?

http://blogcritics.org/archives/2005/07/06/100215.php

Have to disagree with "Born to Run".

And a note: if you're listening to a reallylame band, maybe one where over 50% of the guys are wearing toupes, DON'T yell "Freebird", because it might be in their repetoir, and you do NOT want to hear guys in toupees playing "Freebird". You just don't.

2. I agree with the vast majority of the list.
Especially the criticism of the Doors. Anyone who calls Morrisson a poet is immediately called a moron.

3. I Wholeheartedly Agree with "Freebird"
The lyrics sound like they were written by a 6th grader. And while the meolody is soaring in a way, there's not a lot of musical imagation there, either.

I disagree with the rest of the 60s and 70s picks. Although some of the 80s and 90s songs I don't know by name.

6. Freebird sux....

On the other hand, some songs have become "bad" by just being overplayed for the last 30 years. Hotel California anyone?

8. They played that at the fireworks after the Phils game last Friday
Atlanta had just kicked our butts, and we're playing some redneck anthem?

How 'bout some "Battle Hymn of the Republic"? (apologies to all of yesterday's Proud Southerner, but 9-1 really hurts)

5. I'm not a big Outkast fan...
But in answer the the blogger's question in his dismissal of "Hey Ya"

"Are they serious?"

Uuuuhh... No. They aren't.

If I never hear Freebird again it will be too soon, and the Doors are absolutely the most overrated musical act in the history of music.

13. Imagine!??!!???
How can anyone think that is an over rated song? Just how cold of a heart do you have to have to think Imagine is over rated?

This is another one of those, pick something lots of people like because I can get more attention that way lists.

I will admit to not wanting to hear Freebird ever again but I don't think of it as an over-rated song. Just a song that I heard one time too many on the radio in the 70's.

14. I agree with the list... mostly.
I hate many other songs as well:

Anything by U2
Anything by REM
Anything written, sung or played by any Van Zant family member (Except 3 Steps)
Most things by Sting
Anything by the Doors

And I whole-heartedly agree that "Born to Run" sucks as well. I've never cared for much of anythign by the Boss either.

21. As a musician I have heard my share of people
yelling "FREEBIRD" and others....

It's a painful song to listen to, but as a guitar player I have to say that the Skynard stuff is a lot of fun to play....:)

24. The only song on this list that I agree with
is Oasis. Oasis blows.

All the other songs here have their place. Overrated? Probably. But BAD? No.

26. I agree on most
but not on Born to Run, American Pie and Imagine. I love long story songs and I'd give these a pass as quintessential to the time. I think liking American Pie is a period kind of thing, though. Guess ya had to be there. ( OTOH, Vincent is a much better song.)

Imagine is another song of the time. Overplayed, yes. Sappy, yes. But heartfelt for the time.
