Question about Automobile Glass. |
|
About 6 months ago I had to get my windshield changed on my car (It was Cracked by a large rock)
Anyway...6 months later, the damn thing looks like it has been on the car for 10 years...all pitted and discolored and quite frankly ...Shitty Looking.
What the hell do they make glass out of now-a-days?...Plastic Wrap??

2. Who did you get to change your glass? |
|
Wonder if it's some kind of after market windshield that is nat as good quality as what was in there to begin with.
I had my glass replaced, and I've had no problem at all with it.

7. Did they file it on your insurance? |
|
I'd contact my insurance company and compain about the glass co. using substandard glass. Your insurance company can demand that they replace it or tell them that they won't accept any more claims from them.
Play hard ball with them. Sounds like you were cheated.

4. Go back to where you bought it and ask them what's wrong. |
|
That should not happen!
You don't live near the ocean or anything do you? I mean, you would have had a problem like this with other cars if that wa the problem.
The only time I've ever seen anything like you described was actually sandblasting from the winds blowing sand constantly across a car that always sat outside in an area where there is nothing but sand! Thing is, it also takes the paint off the car at the same time!

6. Two possibilities, and both lead back to the glass installer |
|
The first option is that the glass folks sold you a crappy piece of glass. Some of the more disreputable places do this, charge you for Delco quality while slipping you Saran Wrap product.
The second option is that they installed the glass wrong, and didn't get a good seal. Most auto glass these days is a sandwich, two layers of glass with a layer of plastic wrap in between. If they didn't get a good seal around the edge of the glass, air could get in and start discoloring that layer of plastic wrap, wrinkling it etc.
In either case, I would go back and demand my money back from the glass installer. Granted, any glass could become pitted the first day in, but to have it discoloring this soon is a sure sign of either shoddy product or shoddy installation. Good luck.

9. Never, NEVER let anyone put a third-party windshield on your car! |
|
You have the right to INSIST that you get OEM glass.
The non-OEM stuff is ripply and soft. I had a third-party windshield put in a couple of years ago (I wasn't there to check the installer), and it was so rippled that I thought I was drunk or going blind when I looked through it.
And don't let them bullshit you about "this is the same company that makes the OEM windshields," either. General Motors makes both Cadillacs and Saturns, but that doesn't mean the quality levels of both are the same.
