OK, a few ground rules for you Americans and the 7/7 tragedy.
And I say this as a Londoner, so don't lump on me for being unsympathetic. I'm sitting in central London right now.

1. It's not a "subway". It's called the "Tube" or "underground". "Subways" are the things you use to cross under busy roads. Or a kind of sandwich.

2. We are not dashing out to buy bumper stickers. We simply do not work that way.

3. We still think America rocks, despite the whole illegal war thing.

6. on 2) -- I don't ever recall seeing London festooned with Union Jacks ...
... in a time of tragedy. They break out the flags and bunting if it's, say, a coronation or royal wedding -- but not for something like this. Interesting, isn't it. Going all the way back to Boudicca's Rebellion, the city's probably seen more accidental disasters and deliberate attacks than all Canadian and US cities combined, so I guess it doesn't feel it needs an open display, to reassure itself that it's still here.

11. Americans can't tell the difference between a national tragedy
and a national day of celebration. We're still teenagers over here, you know.

We're not at all sure we're still here most days. Mostly, on those really loud, surly, I need the car and $20 days.

I am glad you are doing OK.

Thanks. Keep us up to date. From all I am hearing in redneckville Kansas we are more freaked by this than you all seem to be. :eyes: You all really do rock!

Our local forces are up to date and ready to roll in case the local Walmart gets hit. :eyes:

Hang in there and be well.

12. I prefer the "Life goes on" attitude that London has shown.
It says more than any flag waving or grandstanding ever will. It proves that someone can try to change things but they never will.

It's the best testament to living.

15. Well, I think you Londoners rock. And you have for many centuries.
I fell in love with the Brits when I watched "Mrs. Miniver" on the late, late movie show one night.

Since that time I've visited London and everyone there was as nice and helpful as anyplace I've ever been in the world.

My heart goes out to you and all your countrymen and countrywomen tonight, Taxloss.

17. Taxloss, you're downright stoic.
Is that the word?

At any rate, I've been reading some British blogs today, and I was impressed by their dark wit... to wit:

July 07, 2005

on a lighter note.....

USA president George Bush - "I offer the United Kingdom all my intelligence...." hmmm, did you see that reporter smirking?

AND

has anyone told the BB7 housemates?

I'm not making this up...

http://london.metblogs.com/archives/2005/07/on_a_lighter_no.phtml#comments

And in a similar vein, I saw a picture of a man outside his London home holding a sign reading:

YOU CALL YOURSELVES TERRORISTS??
MY GRANDMUM COULD DO BETTER!!

I wish to hell I could find the link for that one. It sure beats the hell out of Union Jacks bumperstickers.

But, I confess, after a half dozen visits to your fair city, I still call them subways. Sigh. My bad.
Keep 'em flyin' high, mate!:toast:

and true representatives of "keeping your heads about you, when all others are loosing theirs."

I'll even forgive the BBC for cancelling Changing Rooms, House Invaders, and Cash In the Attic though I will miss LLB, PHil Turner, Allistair Appleton, and Paul Hayes. They've cheered up many an afternoon.

My positive thoughts and sympathies are with you and all your fellow Londoners. :grouphug:
