I havn't seen the movie,but will definately go. In the book the Martians kill a bunch of civilians to scare the population of London. The army comes in,everyone is confidant the army will easily defeat them. Out comes a different weapon that wipes them out. Panic ensues,the author makes observations of how quickly a normal society collapses with just two attacks.
