2. The voice is probably of René Arnoux - bloke in the yellow Renault.

The Ferrari is driven by St. Gilles Villeneuve, God of the Holy Tetrarchy of Formula One (him, Clark, Fangio, and Senna).

It hurts too much*. It hurts me too, but I'm a terminal fanatic and not going to quit watching, ever. The first race I saw was the first race broadcasted in Brazil - the 1972 Brazilian GP. I was 6, and wondered why the announcer kept saying "Emerson Fittipaldi" all the time. :silly: I was hooked forever. :freak:

* By "hurt too much", I mean Elvis level. MLK level. It was THAT much of a shock.

5. VERY cool video! There was a similar bout between Emerson

Fittipaldi and Nigel Mansel in the Cleveland Grand Prix at Burke Lakefront Airport in '93 (I think it was '93) I was there and it was very similar. Each passing the other into the various turns on that very wide, airport course.

8. Emerson's Indycar performances made my jaw drop.

In F1 he was always the analytical, planning, never balls-out guy. He went to the F-Indy and mutated into an unholy beast from the very pits of Hell. VERY few drivers have balls enough to take on Nigel Mansell. Even fewer have enough to do that and actually WIN. :wow:

Ask Al Unser Jr. if you don't believe me. :evilgrin:

10. LOL! Mansell came over here and became a whining,

prestentious primadonna. Well, perhaps he was one in Europe before he came to Indy Cars, i dont know, but he was teamed with Mario and the stories through the paddock were that all he did was complain and bitch. The team grew to hate him and i think that is in part why he didnt stay in Indy car any longer than he did.

Emerson always struck me as the perfect gentleman. I met and conversed with him many times (I worked in the biz from '89 through '96 - held a hard-card annual credential) at races as well as test sessions. He was always cool but, i agree with you, analytical and precise. When he tagged wheels with Al Jr at Indy in '89 with only a couple laps to go, he almost lost it too. The car control at those speeds was phenominal.

Gilles Villenueve seems to have been the same type of driver.

And Senna. Well, what can you say? He is missed, no doubt.

Many of the other driver went apeshit about the 'unsafe' driving of Arnoux and Villeneuve. Good Ol' Mario just said: " a couple young lions clawing each other."

One of the saddest days was when I came home one day from Saturday Baseball practice and my dad asked me if I knew of a driver named "Villeneuve."
