I've got to unravel 33 years of fear fast; I want to be normal.

4. It's hard for me to explain
how I arrived at my current state of non-obsession. I guess it has something to do with being so hard on myself for so long that I finally decided to say, "Fuck it." I had to put up with a lot of heartache before I arrived at my current state of normalness. I'm so normal in fact that I think I've taken it to a level of actually being abnormal. Psychiatric meds haven't hurt, either.

I think a lot of people go through a time in their lives when they obsess about things. It's probably something that you will never be totally rid of. But I do believe that you can find a state of balance. Sorry I can't tell you how to get there.

10. i have a new strategy
it is to laugh at everything, instead of taking everything so seriously. when my kids act up, i try to laugh at it. when i have my own issues to deal with, i try to laugh at them, instead of letting them run my life. i have also learned to say, 'so what?' instead of getting wrapped up in something.

but none of this happens fast! it is a slow road, and it takes commitment to change, but it can be done, and you can get rid of fear.

11. Speaking from experience...
NO ONE FUCKING CARES! All the stuff you obsess about, feel bad about, feel self conscious about... no one ever notices that stuff. Mostly they are so self-obsessed they don't even notice you. So just let go. It does not matter.

Trust me, I used to be where you are. Fearful, self conscious. Your reply to my "what scars do you have" sounded so much like me. I got over it simply by realizing that all the stuff that was holding me back was simply me and had nothing to do with anyone else.

Once you realize that it doesn't matter, that other people are too concerned about themselves to be concerned about all your shortcomings.... It's freedom.

Let go of yourself. The torturer holding you in the dungeon is you. So recognize that and let yourself go. I've read everything you have written about yourself - very little of it is accurate. You are not hideously ugly, you are actually cute. Very attractive. And smart and funny and wondrously geeky.

But don't aim for being "normal", you are so much better than that. Fuck the mundanes, HypnoToad. Be you - as weird and wonderful as you are. And fuck what everyone else thinks, because they aren't actually thinking about you.

It's all very easy to say and very hard to do. You have to push yourself, take a few risks, and when you fail just say to yourself "Fuck it. Too bad. What's the next challenge?" Say it often enough and you can believe it.

And it works. Not immediately, but it does. Find those people who support you and depend on them. There really is nothing to fear and everything to gain.

If you ever wanna discuss this in PM's I'll be happy to. I honestly like you and don't think you should be having to deal with this crap.

Khash.
