American Splendor -or- Sideways?
In which movie does Paul Giamatti do a better job of acting?

I couldn't stand Sideways, but I thought he did an OK job in that role.

His American Splendor role was much, much better, IMO.

1. American Splendor, IMO.
Absolutely superb performance.

Although, I'd gladly see Paul Giamatti in anything (he was also, besides "Sideways", terrific in "Cinderella Man". Maybe Giamatti will finally get a much overdue Oscar for that role. :-))

2. I think he had an easier target in American Splendor.
Harvey Pekar is a pretty vivid character, so I reckon Giamatti didn't have too much trouble simply imitating him.

I liked the movie, mind you, but think Giamatti probably accomplished more as an actor in Sideways.

Interesting question.

3. Other: "Private Parts"
:D

Seriously, though, he was loathsome in that film, the kind of guy you love to hate.

5. I love Giamatti.
Sideways wasn't that good though.

6. Agree...wasn't very "smart", IMO.
Sort of a "Sleepless in Seattle" meets "Singles" for the aging gen-X crowd.

7. All very one dimensional characters.
Most of whom were loathsome.
