2. I had an SUV for 2 1/2 years and decided I hated it |
|
I went back to a car fast.
Couldn't stand the gas mileage or the way it drove.
Live and learn.

8. Hey, just because I drive an SUV |
|
doesn't mean I stupid enough to talk on the phone while I drive
I love my SUV (aside from the mpg, which, if I could afford a hybrid, I'd switch in a second) - but I don't talk on the phone while driving.

18. Well, you're in the minority. |
|
Nothing personal intended. I just happen to think that 4 wheel drive is wasteful and superfluous if you don't live in the mountains or at the end of a dirt road (hey, maybe you do).
As far as the cellphone goes, good for you, but I'm sure you've noticed how many people talk on the phone while driving...

7. I have a small SUV... I LOVE IT.. (and need it) |
|
Jeep Liberty..
Now I need to move up to one with 3 rows of seats.. I'm going to have my 3rd child in a month or so, and my husband has a child. Not to mention when we take the animals to the vet (3 cats 1 dog 1 bird) its a sight to be seen in my Jeep.
I need 4wd here when it snows.. they always "forget" to plow my road and I'm planning on getting a horse in the next few years for the kids. Cant be towing a horse trailer with a car.

11. I'd LOVE to live on a horse farm... |

I used to have an appy and an arabian. Arabian almost killed me and my appy died couple years ago from foundering :(
I'm now looking into a Percheron or a Rocky mountain pleasure horse. Both super nice horses. Not too too expensive and very nice personalities.
Would never get another arabian especially with kids...

We used to live in a suburb of Philly, where 5 acres with an old farmhouse (usually with one bathroom) was $400,000-$500,000 (!). We moved to the county just northwest of where we used to live and got lucky - 12 acres and a 10 year old Colonial. The sellers had had two deals fall through because of freak incidents, and were very anxious to sell - we got such a deal. It's absolute heaven, and has an amazing view to boot!
We only have 2 horses now - a Friesian gelding and an adopted Morgan gelding. My mother would love a Rocky Mountain horse, since she's older now we don't ride too much and she needs a smoother riding horse for her bad back.
Our first horse was an Arab cross and was the absolute BEST horse. She was absolutely fantastic and bombproof...I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience; was he very green? Our second horse was an Appaloosa, and she started out very nutty, but we suspect she had been abused (her previous owners ran a puppy mill - yuck). She ended up being an equally amazing horse. We've been so fortunate with our horses.
Willyou look into buying another horse sometime soon? I think it's wonderful to raise kids with horses - my Mom had me riding from the time I was old enough to hold myself up in the saddle :)

10. My Tahoe has taken me |
|
to some of the best trout fishing areas in the Cascades and in Vancouver BC that I otherwise could not have reached so far off the road. It has taken me out on the Cape Cod National Seashore where I have to deflate my tires to 8 lbs to "float" over he beach sand to get to my favorite striped bass and bluefish fishing grounds. Now it carries my scuba gear and kayak here in Florida and gets me through some of the glades mud holes. I have had a full size SUV (used to be called a 4-wheeler until the yuppies made it popular) since college in the '70s, and will always have one because it takes me where I want to go to do what I want to do.
Now what's this banning BS? I think the anti-SUV threads get carried away around here.

13. What if you didn't know it was an SUV until after you bought it? |
|
I didn't know my PT Cruiser was rated an SUV until well after I started making payments. I can't return it or sell it until after I finish paying it off.

Also lower insurance rates as well.. If anything, the cruiser looks more like a station wagon than my jeep does.

SUVs are an endangered species. Just ask the car companies (if watching the gas price sign isn't enough of a clue).

My parents have a small SUV. They use it for camping, travelling and such. I borrow it sometimes from them. I don't think I'd ever own one of my own but it sure comes in handy when I go to KC to shop in bulk.

23. How are you going to ban them??? |
|
LOL!
In this case, I believe the free market will kill the SUV. Gas prices, the hassle of parking them, etc.
I'm talking about people who own ginormous SUVs and live in urban and suburban areas and really don't have any reason for that kind of vehicle other than that it's a status symbol (they see it that way).
I already know a few families who want to get rid of their Suburbans, but aren't being offered enough on trade-in.
