How 'bout a DVD rental recommendation... |
|
Edited on Fri Jul-08-05 03:12 PM by tk2kewl
What should the wife and I rent tonight?
We haven't done much movie watching in the last year and a half.

4. It is a thriller with Robert DeNiro and Dakota Fanning. |
|
It could've been better, but it did have its moments. Go with the Aviator though!

"Dogtown and Z-Boys" It's about the begining of contemporary skateboarding and by extention the whole extreme sports thing. Good film.
The movie "Lords of Dogtown" (now in theaters) is based on it, but isn't so good, I hear. The documentary is excellent! And I'm not a skateboarding fan - I got it for my son to watch and really liked it.

19. Donnie Darko and Memento are two of my favs |
|
but my recommendation is City of God. Great movie about the drug trade in a South American city. Rio de Janeiro, I think. Roger Ebert says "It's one of the best movies you'll ever see," or something to that effect.

8. Motorcycle Diaries or Sideways |
|
You have to be in the mood for either one. Motorcylce Diaries is thought provoking, beautiful, and impressive. It's not as heavy as it sounds, but it's not a laugh riot.
Sideways gets mixed reviews around here. The lead characters are not always morally appealing (okay, one of them never is), but the story, script, acting and directing are amongst the best in the last couple of years, as its many award nominations and winnings show.
Just my two cents.

but not until more than halfway into it. I have a BIL that is a wine snob so I found the beginning to be just annoying.

18. I didn't think of him as a snob |
|
just obsessed beyond reason. It was a character trait that made me like and hate him at the same time, and I'm always impressed when a movie can do that.
Then again, I never wanted to meet him, either, so if I knew someone like that, it might have turned me off.

11. I second Donnie Darko, but |
|
I would suggest you find the original version. I liked the director's remix as he calls it but think the first version is just a little bit better.
But you can't really go wrong with either version.

Garden State and I Heart Huckabees.
Donnie Darko was mentioned, that's a great film as well.

we're really enjoying "Deadwood" on DVD.
We don't have HBO, but I've seen about 1/3 the episodes in hotel rooms (I travel a lot on Sunday nights).
