What's your favorite 1950's era Sci-Fi movie classic?

2. They are all excellent films

But I went for The Incredible Shrinking Man because of the ending. His acceptance of his fate and maybe even a sense of wonder at what lay in store for him.

And by the way--I LOVE Plan 9. Seriously.

But I must qualify that by saying I have never seen Forbidden Planet all of the way through. I started watching it the other night but it was a work night and I dozed off before it was over.

Still relevant in this day and age...War of the Worlds was 2nd, the one flaw being that annoying lead female character who was screaming hysterically all through the film...I was practically begging the Martians to zap her...

9. I picked "Forbidden Planet" for its MST3k/Rocky Horror value

There are places where you can throw-in the kinds of jokes they used in Airplane and Naked Gun.

10. The Amazing Colossal Man is my choice.

I saw this movie when I was about 3 - 4 years old. It really scared me. I remember thinking that the giant man was outside my building and could see into our windows. The rest of the day I went around the apartment crawling under the windows hoping I would'nt be seen.

16. Plan 9 From Outer Space

You really can't beat the movie that many critics call "the worst movie ever made."

So bad, it's amazing.

...love all the sci-fi flicks from the 50's, however my favorite has to be Earth vs the Flying Saucers. I have many on DVD,. but was stoked when I found this one on DVD only a few weeks back. :)

That movie rocked my little 7-year old world once upon a time.

21. It was a toss-up between THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN

and EARTH VS FLYING SAUCERS(because of the Harryhausen Special effects) but my girl was all for INCREDIBLE so I went with that.
I love Harryhausen. I like the hands-on 'craft' feel of his stuff better than any computer generated stuff.

25. Despite Spielberg's kick-ass FX...

...the original War of the Worlds managed to do something that very few films can claim to do. It kicked Spielberg's ass.
