apparently "I ain't no fortunate son"
So I am doing family history research and one of my relatives marries John Fogarty. Married in 1905, and so too early to be THE John Fogarty, but could be his grandfather of the same name. So I do a little bit more digging and first thing I come up with is 157 John Fogartys in the 1920 census!! Holy cows!! I did not expect my guy to be the only one, but 157??? That does not even include the spelling variations like "Fogerty". 1920 census is only indexed by head of household and I could not find his son or wife in the 1930 census where there were 324 John Fogartys.

Anyway, I googled this about THE John Fogarty.

"Although their music evoked the raw, gospel-tinged sound of the rural South, Doug Clifford, Stu Cook, and brothers Tom and John Fogerty actually hailed from El Cerrito, California, a small town near Berkeley."

1. I always thought of them as being from the south
Especially with songs like "Proud Mary" and "Born on a Bayou."

3. so did I
but I did not know for sure, so I checked. I love the internet for learning new trivia. Fogarty is not mentioned in my 1999 Almanac, but I can find a ton of stuff about him on the web.
