VH1 and MTV to air 10 hours of Live8 on Saturday...
no commericials and I'm assuming without the annoying commentary. The 10 hours will be split between the 2 channels with each channel showing different stuff from the concerts. And yes, somewhere in there will be the Pink Floyd set!

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1505406/07072005/u2.jhtml?headlines=true

our parents might not listen, your teachers might not listen, but MTV, apparently, listens.

Responding to viewers and critics, MTV Networks has announced that it will broadcast 10 hours of Live 8 performance footage — including sets

from Jay-Z, U2, Paul McCartney and others — commercial-free on MTV and VH1.

MTV and VH1 will each offer five hours of uninterrupted performance footage with differing artist lineups on Saturday. VH1 will air its Live 8 highlights from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, while MTV's batch of highlights will roll out from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

"At MTV and VH1, we're in a constant and candid dialogue with our audience, and in the wake of the live events last Saturday, our viewers have resoundingly told us online they want to see full-set performances from their favorite artists," MTV Networks Music Group President Van Toffler said of the move. "As a result of viewer demand and thanks to the Live 8 organizers and performers, MTV and VH1 will air 10 consecutive hours from one of the most important musical events of our time."

3. Better late than never I suppose.
Next maybe they will respond to the fact that their other stations plays
R&B,Hip Hop,Soul,Rap but practically no contemporary rock just oldies.

Dont get me wrong,I really love all the styles I mentioned but to ignore rock is sleazy considering its how they became popular in the first place.

They hype these bands but never show them on their stations and the ones they show suck.

MTV actually used to be a decent source for new acts back in the day.I dont know why they cant be now.Im sure there is a market for it.

the first time. Now, they want to come back and give "the Masses" what they tuned out the first time because of over commercialization.

Just find a reputable African Relief Charity to give to and bypass these "scam artists" who get the "kickback" from MTV to allow the "mega commercials" that PAY for their so-called charitable endeavors to promote the "current artists" on their payroll over the older groups they don't get the co-op money from from the young artists where the "payola" is more profitable.

Puke on the whole thing. :puke: Just my opinion...I'm sure many will enjoy seeing it all "UNCUT." But it's the PRINCIPLE of it...and not just OUR viewing pleasure that's at stake here. I won't watch because they f**cked it up the first time and I'm not inclined to give another chance.

First, MTV & VH1 game a concert to what their viewers are use to watching - lots of quick cuts & interviews. They obviously underestimated those that would turn in and watch the show.

Pissed as I am, it's nice to see that these stations are doing the right thing and giving fans the chance to see how great some of these concerts were.

As for MTV, I just spent the last hour watching a really great documentary about 3 young people living in American doing minimum wage jobs and trying to make ends meet. And MTV has shown some great docs to their viewers in hopes to better educate them about the world around them.

So please, be my guest and boycott. But I'm checking for a few blank VHS tapes so I can record some of those shows for future viewing until the DVD is released.

Anyhow, let's look at the big picture of what the concert is all about. World Poverty isn't going to end in one weekend - we need all the help we can get!

13. They must have confused MTV viewers with MTV2 viewers
Edited on Fri Jul-08-05 11:21 PM by rocknation
It's MTV/VH1 premium cable viewers who actually get to watch music videos full time. Maybe that's why their front office was so stunned to find out that basic cable MTV/VH1 viewers prefer to see an artist's peformance to the end!

Or maybe they just DIDN'T WANT TO broadcast entire songs or sets of certain artists. There's a reason why MTV/VH1 moved their music videos from basic to premium cable and introduced the world to "reality TV": the record labels refused MTV's request to start paying them to play them. It's no accident that you saw so much of some acts and so little of others--it WASN'T fear of alienating the youth demographic!

7. I'll watch it just to see the Pink Floyd set
There were some other great sets, though, especially Ziggy Marley and Paul McCartney.

8. Ziggy Marley was great but the sound was all messed up
I was at the Philly concert and the sound was royally messed up for the Black Eyed Peas including when Ziggy Marley came out and they did Redemption Song. Unfortunately even when I saw the rebroadcasts on TV & AOL they still weren't that great. But the concept was really good on paper

10. I'm assuming EST
check your local listings. Obviously they aren't going to show what band plays when. I would think that the more urban/hip-hop/pop stuff would be on MTV and the Rock stuff on VH1 - but usually, on an almost hourly basis, I tend to be wrong

But AOL's got them beat--unless they're leaving their web site up only until the weekend. Here's where you can see full videos of each song each act performed in six cities, not just London and Philly. For instance, I found a set by Deep Purple in Toronto. If you have Mac OSX, you'll have to use your Safari browser. (Holy feces--did I just say something NICE about AOL?)
