Help: What is Sprinfield IL like?
I have a prmosing lead for a job in Springfield. What is the area like/ How progressive, not progressive? How is the entertainemnt, for kids and adults? How does it compare to a city. Anyone who lived there, advice would be appreciated.

2. The locals are great
Be sure to check out Moe's and the tire fire. They were once taken over by killer dolphins though, so you might want to keep your guard up.

3. My ex husband lived there for a few years, and my son with him last summer
... I have not spent a lot of time there, but my son was not happy. My ex hubby's 'quality of life' is/was very poor, so my son saw the underbelly and I had a glance. It isn't pretty; but that's true anywhere.

4. I've never been to the Deep South
but I feel like I got a little taste of it when I stayed in Springfield. Very right-wing and stuck about half a century in the past.

5. Not at all progressive.
It's pretty conservative, in fact. I don't know where you're living now but if you're used to a more urban atmosphere with entertainment options, ethnic food, funky boutiques, and a variety of activities (besides Lincoln historical stuff) you're not going to find it in Springfield. It doesn't really have much surrounding it except cornfields so it's like a big town/small city plopped in the middle of nowhere. And it's too far away from Chicago to make the trip something you'd do for a night or two. I lived with a girl from Springfield and she always complained how backwater it was. I was surprised what a thick southern accent she had. It struck me as really being more like Kentucky or Missouri than Illinois.

Still, I'm sure it has its charms and housing is probably pretty affordable.

9. Last time we were there they had a Tokyo of Japan (!) Restaurant
that's motto was "Tableside cooking in the Chicago Tradition". That was scary. It was also weird to see the hookers trolloping around directly in from on Abe Lincoln's house at 5 in the evening. He must have been spinning in his grave.
