needed: quirky romantic ideas |
|
Well, once again thanks to those of you who did an awesome job of consoling me over the whole "my boyfriend is in London, I haven't heard from him, etc., etc., etc." thing. But anyway, on a lighter note, Mr. Fricasseed is coming back from the UK next weekend and I want to do something unexpected and nice for him. I am vehemently un-sappy (i.e. no flowers, chocolate, or big pink hearts) but I would really like to do something because I certainly miss him like hell with all the tragic craziness that's taken place on the other side of the Atlantic. Any ideas?
There are no dirty connotations to this post, but I am nevertheless open-minded and will listen to any suggestions. We both have crazy senses of humor, too. (Please nothing involving alcohol, though. He doesn't drink.)

I hate kicking but I do hope at least one person has a nifty idea. I'm so uncreative.

2. I have no clue, but this thread shouldn't fall off the page with no |
|
help from others. So, I'll give it a kick for you and, hopefully, others who are romantic will respond.
And, I'm really glad your loved one is safe

4. Are you anywhere near a beach? |
|
There's nothing quite like walking barefoot on a beach at 2am with the water caressing your toes. My wife and I took a trip to Florida that didn't work out so well, but that walk on the beach was one of my best memories from the trip.

5. You could have a second honeymoon. I hear those are popular. |
|
And if one of you brings a friend it will be like that hilarious "Third Wheel" sketch from Mr. Show.

That'd be hilarious, especially since we aren't married yet (we're in our early 20s, and this is the urban Northeast, where the "appropriate" age for marriage seems to be between 28 and 38 :eyes:) but I'm intrigued about this Third Wheel sketch. I've never seen Mr. Show, but the premise sounds familiar; one of our mutual friends does always tend to wind up tagging along with us wherever we go...we always feel so bad for the poor guy.

10. That was an uncharacteristically conservative assumption |
|
Sorry about that. My desire to work in a Mr. Show reference was too overpowering to consider anything else.

We figure we'll get hitched when we believe it is our time to join millions of other faithful Americans in that sacred union between a man and a woman once we want the tax breaks.

7. do something that you guys enjoy doing together. |
|
since i dont know what you two make a habbit of doing together... its hard to recommend something. make it something thats fairly uncommon or rare and special.
i donno, what are some of the things you guys do together? i mean anything and everything here... hard to recommend something without knowing much about either of you.

make him something spicy, like maybe a thai dish. the food is the key, and spicy - well that's the other key. or just order something spicy. put on some nice jams, something sexy and trip-hoppy to listen to in the background when you eat and talk. light some incense. get the second season of the chapelle show on dvd. watch some of that. or dont watch anything at all. funny people can have fun and laugh in any situation. don't get him any cards or anything, but tell him things you would read in a card. think ahead of something you want to say to him and say it. have "some fun" <wink wink>. then go for a walk and get coffee together and talk some more and laugh. by the time he goes back to england the dude will be whistling yankee doodle dandy.
it's kind of the jeet-kune-do of romance, "no way as way" or "doing nothing as doing something" in this case. there shouldn't be pressure to "do something". whatever it is should appear effortless.
i'm a relatively boring guy, my idea of fun is being alone with my girl.
on edit: oh you wanted quirky. sorry. umm, how about you get your best looking girlfri. . . no see i can't really come up with quirky either it turns into sick fantasy at that point.

good luck though regardless. if it's quirk you're looking for you've undoubtedly come to the right place and its all a matter of time before somebody comes up with something.

17. Vanilla massage oil is your friend |
|
Anybody who isn't totally stressed out and in need of a massage after a transatlantic flight AFTER being in London during the bombings would be something beyond human. Massage oil is available at Body Shop or Bath & Body Works (I think I have the names right; one or the other is in every mall in America) and can be scented with whatever you like. Vanilla is usually a big hit, though.
