"The bike came off underneath me."
Sorry if this is a dupe folks, but *'s explanation of how he lost control of his mountain bike outside of the G8 venue Wednesday is one of the nuttiest things I've read (this week, anyway).

"When you ride a mountain bike, sometimes you fall, otherwise you are not riding hard. The pavement was slick and the bike came off underneath me."

-- President George W. Bush, after riding his mountain bike into a British cop outside of the the G8 venue in the UK, on Wednesday, June 6.

5. That sounds like a classic JRA excuse...
JRA=Just Riding Along

Any bike mechanic will tell you that 90 percent of people who bring their bikes in for fixing use that excuse; it's a bad cliche..

12. Believe it or not...
... the guy who wrote the book Bush on the Couch (Franks was his name, I think), said that Bush's world view was stuck at the level of a narcissistic thirteen-year-old, rigid absolutes, an irrational belief in the infallibility of authority, etc.

M'self, I think this quote simply illustrates an overtired point--Bush can never admit a mistake--the reality is that he wasn't watching where he was going and he pile-drivered a bobby on duty, but his reasons were all about rain and the bike... not him.

Bush likely learned the passive voice at a very young age.

:P

17. That's funny, if I fall, I don't slam into a person.
Usually, if I have a mishap with a bicycle (and this is going back many years, as apparently I don't "ride hard" like Bush), I manage to get *away* from people/trees/animals before I wipe out.

If I were being meaner, I'd even suggest he ran into the cop to break his own fall.
