When I was out roaming all over the area one night, I thnk I was in sixth grade, and I did a few things I was not proud of in the heat of the moment and the whole group dynamic thing....

So, like the Mama's and the Papa's before me, I stopped into a church I passed along the way....

Morning mass...

This guy tells me not to come in because I had dirt on my shoes....

Right then and there I realized that spiritualiry is personal and is what you make it and has nothing at all to do with a church or a religion......

when I started questioning it to myself, but I was 18 before I articulated my questions around other folks. I remember thinking, when I was an 11-year-old Baptist, "If God has a master plan for our lives and has manifested our destiny from the beginning and made us the way we are, then how can we be held responsible for our 'sins'?"

It was that, and also having a youth counselor who felt up all the young girls to make sure we were wearing bras at church camp.
