Why I am a conservative
I am a conservative because I believe in fiscal responsibility, such as not giving the rich a free ride with deregulation and tax cuts.

I am a conservative because I believe in a moral society, such as one
where a draft-dodging ex-alcoholic can't become president through
vote fraud and then govern zealously and aggressively.

I am a conservative because I believe in common sense, such as that removing the minimum wage will hurt workers and that when all
leading scientists without an agenda says so, global warming exists.

I am a conservative because I believe in limiting wasteful
government spending, such as not spending hundreds of billions of dollars on a illegal war built on lies.

I am a conservative because I do not believe in excessive taxation,
especially not against the middle and working class for the benefit
of corporations and millionaires.

I am a conservative because I believe in getting the permission of an authority, such as the UN, before doing something reckless, such as invading Iraq.

And yet I am a liberal.

About the "personal choices" thing, definitely true. My point was that liberals believe in the same things as conservatives, but in a different way (sorry if that sounds vague). And annabanana, go right ahead. Maybe the post will become a chain letter someday B-)

2. I am personally very conservative....
I'm celibate. Religious. I don't really drink alcohol. (rarely) Or gamble.

But, politically I'm not conservative at all.

Good post.

3. What makes you a liberal . . .
is that you have no interest in shaping public policy around your personal choices, don't you think?

5. that and compassion
I also believe in equality, that people should have access to adequate health care and education. The Right seems to care little about anything other than making money.

I don't even know how liberal I am really. I don't subscribe to any ideology, I just do what I believe is right. If that makes me liberal, than I guess I'm liberal, you know?

9. Same here.
These are the guiding principles of my life: love, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equianimity. It's worked for me so far.

6. I guess
most people are "conservative" (with a small c). If things are going well most people like them to continue without too much change, to entrust the economy and security to a safe pair of hands.

And they did, back in November 2000. But five people on the Supreme Court decided that they knew better.

8. excellent post, Pinko!
Welcome to DU. The sooner that America's conservatives realize that the Republican Party has gone gonzo on them, the better for America!

May I disseminate your post to my less enlightened acquaintences?
