OK Who Else Loves OATMEAL?
Not the pasty Quaker kind but the chewy cook-it-for-a-half-hour kind??

McCain's Irish Oatmeal rocks!! With butter, milk, cinamon and brown sugar natch....

11. I cook it for 24 minutes -- the water has to be boiling when you start
It's good with bananas too, or applesauce...

15. Wow, 24 minutes?
Hmmm, why does it take me so long?

(Confession: my husband usually cooks the oatmeal. I am the oatmeal recipient.)

I usually have to spend 45 minutes inhaling coffee before I'm ready for breakfast anyway.

I also drizzle maple syrup in it and add raisins. Or mix in applesauce, for an apple crisp fix...

10. I need to try that. Thanks for the tip.
I enjoy even the Quaker Quick oats (I have so little time in the morning).

I'm on an intense low choilesterol, high fiber diet, so...

Actually, I'm enjoying the change of diet, fwiw.

whack your cholesterol).

About halfway thru, I was groaning!

Now it's just one cup a day. That was just way too much!

20. I like any kind
I prefer slow-cooked but I often have the instant kind. I usually have it with raisins or banana slices and sometimes, rarely, with skim milk and turbinado sugar.

21. Real oatmeal for me please.
Edited on Sat Jul-09-05 03:33 PM by Lilyhoney
I put nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, some kind of fruit and butter and raw sugar. I also like Farina.

Although, I only eat theese at night as a snack.

Oh, and it has to be made with whole milk. Put the oatmeal in the cold milk, and has to be cooked very, very slowly for about 25 minutes. The oats will be tender with enough chew to it and the milk has become thick but not too heavy.

26. I get the cheap, instant kind from Save-A-Lot
so I don't have the benefit of trying the kinds you are talking about here. However, I am a fan of cream of wheat smothered in butter, brown sugar and syrup. Yum!

28. Best Oatmeal Recipe
I read this recipe on a website and it's the best I've ever had.

Paraphrased:

Heat the pot.
Melt a small amount of butter.
Add a little sugar.
Toast dry (non-instant) oatmeal, until it smells like oatmeal cookies.
Add milk.
Cook for 30 minutes.

Add toppings: maple syrup, condensed milk, brown sugar, etc.

Enjoy.
