Does your cat chirp at birds?
my cat has been sitting in the window and everytime a bird starts chirping, she starts chirping back at it. It is very funny

1. yep-- I call it the bird cry....
It's very funny, but I suspect it reflects great frustration on their part.

3. Ever read "Catwatching" by Desmond Morris?
I don't have my copy handy so I can't give you an exact quote, but he says that the "talking" cats do when they are watching birds mimics the jaw movement that they make when they go in for the kill. The "talking" is more like "practice" for the kill.

My cat has learned the word "bird." When she jumps in the window and I say the word "birds" she does the chatter.

6. That's really cool. I'm going to go get the book!
I've been sitting on a gift certificate to Borders that was given to me while I was going through a really bad patch emotionally...The one term of the gift is that I can't use it to get anything that will make me more angry or stressed (IE- political expose books, or anything like that!)

This would be a perfect fit :-) I love kitties! :-)

13. It happened this morning. I just go "Seiko...birds!" and she starts.
This is one of her favorite spots to camp out...the recliner in my bedroom. The "bird terror alert level" in MY house is always set to "low."

12. I believe it
I had a cat named Lucifer who was a grand champion killer of birds. We couldn't grab him out of the yard before he had one in his mouth. Made us sick! But he was so used to being outside we couldn't make him an indoor cat. Belled collars were out of the question, as they were torn off as soon as they were on.

He would make that Naggggggghhh! naggggghhh! noise right before he pounced. He did manage to call the birds out of the trees with that sound, no kidding.

4. One of mine says:
"mmmmm....rrrrrr...aaaahhh.... aaah... ahhh.... ahhhh. MMMMM RRRRRrr...AAah...ah..ahh..."

Of course, we have a birdfeeder outside our window, so we're basically encouraging Kitty chirping!

8. What's weird is hearing my deaf cat do that to my cockatiel.
He trills at the bird. It must be an innate thing.

All of the other cats are freaked out by the bird but not Cubby, who's been deaf since birth. He's fascinated by him.
