Anyone have experience with cheap laminate wood flooring?
I'm talking the sub-Pergo, $1.00/sf stuff like this: http://www.affordafloors.com/laminatespecials.htm

I need to replace a carpet and don't want to spend alot because I don't plan to be in this house much longer. Is this stuff acceptable for a cheap flooring? Or is it cardboard crap?

1. Just make sure the floor is clean, the padding is down

Adn doesn't bunch up or the floor will literally "float" around on you......

and you have a sharp buzz saw........

One more thing, be very carefull with your beer on that day......

But other than that, it's not too hard, easy once you start and you get done a lot quicker than you think....

2. Five years, no problems. We even have it in the mudroom.
I love it. And we didn't go Pergo either... I think ours was "one step down" from the top dog on the market at the time.

I've dropped heavy stuff, spilled water, even spilled maple syrup (we do live in VT) and it's still great. The dog has been sick on it -- wipes up GREAT!

Go for it!

3. If you are going to sell the house
Bite the bullet and put down carpeting. (Something nice but a loud colour) or real hard word floors. It will make your house moe saleable.

6. Well, the issue at hand is dog pee
I like the wood option for that reason alone. Plus I just love the look of wood even if it's fake. My house is actually a cheap townhouse, new carpet or real hardwood isn't worth the up front cost IMO. Especially since I already have one entire floor of parquet wood.

4. We got my 15x20' dining room/kitchen done in 1/2 day..
We got the Pergo from home depot. Very easy to do - not a touch hard. I dont know abut the cheaper stuff but the Pergo just snapped together. We did use glue and padding (directions said not necessary but we did to make sure it was put). I think we paid 4 something/sf - was about 5 years ago.

Also.. word of advice.. DONT GET IT WET AND LET IT SIT. One of my cats knocked over a glass of water that I had on the table overnight. Next morning it was lifting at the seam.

Also.. having a 75 gal aquarium on this stuff makes for a lot of lifting at the seams (spilled water.. )
