This is simply the best summer movie season we've had in decades
How odd it is that business is down when we've been given:

--Far and away the best Star Wars film since "Empire" ("Revenge of the Sith").

--Quite possibly the finest comic-book adaptation ("Batman Begins").

--The triumphant return of George Romero ("Land of the Dead").

--A visceral Steven Spielberg film ("War of the Worlds").

Any takers?

3. You might want to leave "Fantastic Four" out of that pantheon

Use those precious eight dollars for another viewing of "Batman."

Trust me...

4. Fantastic Four wasn't all that bad
No big surprises; Reed was a little stiff, and the way they took out Doom was anti-climatic, but it's at least watchable unlike the monumental crapfest the Incredible Hulk was.

I thought he was supposed to be super-flexible. Oh the irony!

6. Was anyone around for the offerings of 1982?
"E.T."
"Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan"
"John Carpenter's The Thing"

Not bad.
