4. The central villain essentially puts Batman in the position of Abraham |
|
Just as Abraham was desperate to deter Yahweh from destroying Sodom, Wayne finds himself pleading with, and summarily fighting, the ideologues who have a perverse fixation with "collective punishment."
I love those Biblical allusions.

5. The villains were great. |
|
You know why they were great? They served a purpose in the story. It wasn't like the '90s Batman films were they just threw darts at a board to select Batman's foes. The movie wasn't about the villains... it was about Batman, but the villains made the most out of their time there.

11. The problem is that Jack was just playing himself, not the Joker |
|
The Joker of Bob Kane/Dennis O'Neil/Alan Moore lore was an absolute psychopath; Nicholson's Joker was crazy, but not insane.
We need a gaunt actor who could plumb depths of evil heretofore unseen in film. If Nolan loves us, he'll seek out Adrien Brody or Ewan McGregor.

10. Oh, don't get me wrong. |
|
I have no qualms with the 1989 movie. I loved it. Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson, and Tim Burton made one of my favorite movies of all time.
I was referring more to the rubble nipple-clad Batman movies of 1995 and 1997.
