I bought a bunch of cheap, cool jewelry last night

I got a gold chain, silver pendants with semi-precious stones, earrings in lapis, turquoise, amethyst, and some sort of green stone. I never liked jewelry all that much til I moved to the Middle East, now I really like it. I've got jewelry from Turkey, India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and of course the UAE. Between the several shalwar kemize I had made and all the jewelry I will be wearing, including a gold nose ring in the shape of a flower, my family will hardly recognize me when I go home in a few weeks!

1. Oh lord the jewelry!

I've got about 15 shalwars - talk about comfortable! Although I kinda feel weird wearing 'em in Houston.

I also got a flower nose ring in the souk in Abu Dhabi. I got more gold than I know what to do with - and silk carpets, etc.

3. I'll have 17 shalwar kemize when my last three are made

and the silk (and wool!) carpets are simply heaven here. I had pretty simple tastes two years when I moved to Sharjah, but not now.

I love the souk there! We used to go there for the weekend. There's more to buy in Dubai and Sharjah has a strictly no alcohol policy... but the souk is really cool.

I love the perfume here, too, although it took me a while to get used to it.

The UAE is a paradise for jewelry lovers. You can get beautiful stuff, modern and old, for dirt cheap.
