At this moment, I have a dog in my lap, a cat on my shoulder...
and five kittens curled up in various spots near or on my person. Do they know something I don't know?

1. They know that you are nervous and they are just trying to
calm you.

Have you started seeing anything yet? Weather Channel is showing some bands coming in through your area. Been outside to check the sky?

6. Nothing yet - I've been outside on and off all night.
It's a strange rush when they come, its an energy and it can be so beautiful before they strike.

Also, I was pissed and had to go stomp off! x(

My dogs are looking at me like I am crazy, when I got mad, they ran to their kennels. Poor things. :-(

9. Why are you pissed?
Was it that "red states" comment in the other thread?

16. .
That was terrible.

I read the obituary awhile ago. I did not realize that Andy was ONLY 43. I knew he was young, but, my god, not that young. :(

17. Yes, he was so young and he so wanted to live.
What those evil ones and that poster seem to forget or don't care to know is that he was a person with feelings, a very sensitive human being. What they did broke his heart - broke my heart - I couldn't do a damn thing to stop them, nothing I did could convince them.

2. They sense your worry, and you are their momma...
So they are staying close to their leader, since they are sharing your worry.

4. The kittens are so funny.
They keep fighting with each other. The mother cat nips them when they get too rowdy. Good mama cat! :)

7. Yes, she does.
She's funny. Either she has the :wtf: look or the :eyes: look. She's ready to wean the little parasites, so it's really funny to watch the interaction.

8. They are more empathetic than the whole bushie family!
They feel your worry and concern -- plus they will want to take shelter with you.

Be safe!

My thoughts are with you and your furkids tonight.

11. Hey, just so you know!!
Those photos you posted in the hurricane thread in LBN....they freaked me out! :scared:

I'm closer to the coast than you are, and this is a cat4 hurricane. I went to the store and bought much ice, water, and other necessities tonight. After seeing your photos, I realized that it is money well spent.

:hi:

21. They weren't mine
That's the other cat walking person -- Loren -- with the Maine Coon cats etc.

Yes I saw those photos -- reminds me of one of the huge wind storms we had here in Washington State -- all the trees along an 8 miles road were blown down. The winds were clocked at somewhere around 80 mph.

It took all the pick-up trucks and chain saws in the area to clear the road.

I drove through Florida in May -- and in areas many of the homes still have blue tarps on their roofs -- from LAST season.

23. Oops. Thought that was you.
I live under a canopy of big trees. Huge pines, oaks, hickories.

Those pictures terrified me. :scared:

27. You're going to have a rough few hours
I'm hoping that all you have is stress from worrying -- and not trees being blown over. I can remember the sound of trees falling in the woods and then the next morning seeing them criss crossed on the forrest floor. No large trees were close to our house -- that year.

So I know how you feel -- find a safe place and try to get some sleep.

My leg is going to sleep. I HAVE to get up in a moment. :D

14. I can't sleep.
My back started hurting earlier, so I took some excedrin. Unfortunately, I'm going to be up for awhile. :(

22. Oh yeah. I have flexoril, naprosen, hydrocodone...
I have lots of meds. I have several herniated disks in my lower spine.

But flexoril knocks me out for 12 hours. I had to get some stuff done and knew I didn't have 12 hours to spare.

18. Animals can sense a change in the weather.
Once, we had a pretty significant earthquake for this region of the country (NorthEast). I was just getting into bed when my little Cairn Terrier suddenly came right up next to me, visibly shaking. It didn't happen immediately, but it came. The whole house shook! Then I freaked! I grabbed him and ran and stood in the closet, LOL! He knew what was coming! Listen to your animals! And please look after yourself!
:scared:

25. Thanks, Rhiannon.
Yes, I think they can sense weather changes. I really wish I would have visited the vet today to get some "doggy downers" for Lucinda. She tends to become very nervous even during a normal rain storm.

28. My Rags, the dog who predicted the earthquake, was the same.
Rain freaked him out, let alone thunder! Yikes! He would go into a blind panic! I've been there, my friend. Good luck and keep us posted. I'll be thinking of you and watching the weather.

26. Yep...they may be able to feel the change (nothing mystical, necessarily,
just being more sensitive to pressure changes) or they can sense your concern. Either way, they're tuned in. There's definitely a different feel in the air that accompanies the coming of a big hurricane (and being in the eye is REALLY weird) so perhaps no surprise if they're more attuned to it than we are. At least you're not alone!
