But it happens....
Afternoon delight, that crappy song from 1975-76 came out when I was having an affair with an older married woman.....
Every time I would drive up in the landscapping truck, she would come to the door humming afternoon delight....
Ah, those were the days of our youth.....

3. Why? Doesn't the world have enough problems with the religious already? |
|
We need to get away from Faith Based War and try Fact Based Negotiations. The religious seem to want to kill everything in their god's creation and let that god sort things out. If they really are made in their gods image what does that say about their god?

Church, by Lyle Lovett
I went to church last Sunday So I could sing and pray But something quite unusual Happened on that day
Now church it started right on time Just like it does without a doubt And everything was all just fine Except when it came time to let us out
You know the preacher he kept preaching He told us I have one more thing to say Children before you think of leaving You better think about the Judgment Day
Now everyone got nervous Because everyone was hungry too And everyone was wondering What was the next thing he would do
And the preacher he kept preaching He said now I'll remind you if I may You all better pay attention Or I might decide to preach all day
And now everyone was getting so hungry That the old ones started feeling ill And the weak ones started passing out And the young ones they could not sit still
And the preacher's voice rose higher So I snuck up on the balcony And I crept into the choir And I begged them brothers, sisters, help me please
I said when I give you a signal I said when I raise up my hand Won't you please join with me together And praise the Lord I have a plan
And the preacher he kept preaching Long is the struggle, hard the fight And I prayed, Father please forgive me And then I stood up and with all my might I sang
To the Lord let praises be It's time for dinner now let's go eat We've got some beans and some good cornbread And I listened to what the preacher said Now it's to the Lord let praised be It's time for dinner now let's go eat
Yes and I did give a signal Yes and I raised up my hands And then joined with me the choir Yes every woman, child, and man They sang
To the Lord let praised be It's time for dinner now let's go eat We've got some beans and some good cornbread And I've listened to what the preacher said Now it's to the Lord let praised be It's time for dinner now let's go eat
And the preacher he stopped preaching And a hush the church did fill And then a great white dove from up above Landed on the window sill
And the dove flew down beside him And a fork appeared right in his hand And with everybody watching The preacher ate that bird right there and then
And now everyone got really nervous And the preacher he did start to glow And as we watched in disbelief These were the words he spoke
He said now Mama's in the kitchen And she's been there all day And I know she's cooking something good So let's bow our heads and pray And he sang
To the Lord let praises be It's time for dinner now let's go eat We've got some beans and some good cornbread Now listen to what the preacher said He said to the Lord let praised be It's time for dinner now let's go eat
And the moral of this story Children it is plain but true God knows if a preacher preaches long enough Even he'll get hungry too And he'll sing
To the Lord let praises be It's time for dinner now let's go eat We've got some beans and some good cornbread Now listen to what the preacher said He said to the Lord let praised be It's time for dinner now let's go eat

If Muslims have adopted Friday as the day of rest And the Jews have adopted Saturday as the day of rest And the Chirstians have adopted Sunday as the day of rest......
That leaves a four day work week....
Cause all three recognize the Ten commandments....
So in a pluralisitc society that is supposedly founded on the three great religions of the western world, wouldn't all three days have to be declared as day's of rest,,,,
In deference to all the faiths......
Or should we just say screw it...
Do what you want....
You're on your own....

|
Edited on Sun Jul-10-05 07:12 AM by arwalden
... not including weddings and funerals. And not including historical sight-seeing touristy stuff.
The last time that I actually attended a regular church service was probably when I was in high school--still living at home with my parents--over 27 years ago. (And even THEN, it's very like that I attended ONLY after being coerced, and with great resentment.)

73. Day Late: the Sabbath was Yesterday |
|
The Jews and the Adventists have that right; but then Islam holds that it was the day before ...
Hard to keep the (self described as) Angry Jealous Mr. Big Happy.
Interesting that the Lord and Creator of the Universe would describe Himself so, for “Jealous” seems such an adolescent sort of state. In this context, do enjoy dictionary.com's definition of "jealous":
1) Fearful or wary of being supplanted; apprehensive of losing affection or position. 2a) Resentful or bitter in rivalry; envious: jealous of the success of others. 2b) Inclined to suspect rivalry. 3) Having to do with or arising from feelings of envy, apprehension, or bitterness: jealous thoughts
If freely picking a deity, I'd like one a bit more sure of her/himself, as s/he might then be less likely given to the violent fits of savagery and murder that insecurity seems to bring out in a god, and that the God of Abraham has, beyond question, proved to suffer from.
Praise the Lord.
Just pick the Right Day, else He will make you sorry.

75. I never go to church. |
|
In fact, I've only been to church a few times in my life. Once as a kid with a friend whose mother said I could only spend the night (on a Saturday) if I went to church with them the next day. Once when my cousin was christened. And one other time but I was very young and I don't remember much about it.
