Your image on DU: another approach

It occurs to me that fundamentally nearly all of us are going to have a very nebulous image because so few of us post under our real names but instead go by screennames usually representing fairly nebulous concepts and often sounding alike. I mean, I don't expect that people are confusing me with underpants and undergroundrailroad, but neither do I think that you're looking at my every post thinking, "Oh right. The hick from SC with the '80s obsession." Or maybe you are, I dunno.

What you are probably doing, though, is unconsciously building up an impression of whether you think the given poster is basically a warm person or basically an asshole. Conversely, presumably you have some notion whether other people think of you as one or the other, or more likely some mix of the two.

So the question is: Do you think your image on DU is mostly warm or mostly asshole?

Heeeeeeeeeeeeey! With 10 slots, I can't have both a 100% warm slot and a 100% asshole one. Ah well, I'm pretty sure anyone who's the latter would be banned by now. If you believe you are being slighted by this omission, however, by all means feel free to reply as such below. Just try not to be an asshole about it.:P

If you're a warm asshole, I just don't want to know about it.

(PS: For a minute there I had the phrase "use usernames usually" in the first sentence. To think I once believed I was a professional writer!)

I'm perceived as somewhat more of a nice helpful empathic type than a crank. But I'm open to the possibility of being seen as an asshole; I do seem to have a preternatural ability to piss people off.

4. I'm pretty darned warm and open.

I'm basically just "me" here. I'm a person who needs to wear my heart, my values, and my opinions on my sleeve. I probably show more facets of myself here that is known only to those closer to me than I show to my bevy of acquaintances (who I tend to be more reserved with). There's a few people I am closer with (or have been) and I'd like to think those who know me well know I'm ultimately an honest and decent person- assorted complexities aside.

I'm not really an asshole so much as I can be pretty reserved, especially in GD. The more emotional I get in debate, the more detached and Spocklike my writing becomes. Odd dichotomy there.

But mostly here in the Lounge, my writing is pretty much as you would find me IRL. Though sometimes threads move so fast I don't have time to respond. It's like in a conversation where you think you have something to say, but folks have moved on to another topic.

That's why I keep a journal. I can let things out that really don't fit anywhere else.

I was a little disappointed in the book, since I leafed through it, looking for Gould Hall, my dorm when I was there, but it didn't seem to be included. The majority of pix seem to be of the old gym. Even I used the new one. And I agree that this is very sad. It's a beautiful campus with such an amazing history. Dwight Moody started Northfield first, you know. And, if I, who wasn't all that enamored of my Northfield experience, can feel sad, imagine how the die-hard early classes must feel! I read one letter from an alumnae, from the '40s, I think, who said that they should have waited until "all us old broads died off" before they did this. Yikes!
