What do the DU punkers listen to?
Just wondering about you guys...

My tastes that would fall in that category (if swept with a very broad brush) would be:

Propagandhi (Todays Empires was a departure, and sick, can't wait for more)
Strike Anywhere (Thier band logo is the Socialist three strike logo)
Millencolin (The singers voice infects me)
Nofx (Good message, seem to be softening as of late, but I'm down)
Dead Kennedys (If I ruled the world, Give me Convenience would be required)
Black Flag (mostly Damaged, good shit)
Five Iron Frenzy (liberal Christians!)
MxPx (nostalgia from my skating days, broad brush)
Rancid (saw them 12 times, I used to consider them the last refuge of trad. punk, until Prop released its latest album)
AFI (pre latest album)
Less Than Jake (haven't heard thier latest, but Borders and Boundaries disappointed me... everything prior to that was great)
H20 (latest CD I've heard by them was "faster than the world" and that cd is fucking insane)

Thats it for now... whatcha peeps listen to.

4. get the hell out of my record collection!
though I'd probably switch out Rancid for the Jam, and I have to add some Minutemen in there.

2. Clash always
I've really gotten into punk recently, my room mate listens to nothing but country. So.. Clash and Dropkick Murphys and whatever else I can get my hands on! I'm desperate! No more country!!

5. I like
The Dead Kennedys (I say the "required" album should be Bedtime For Democracy, but ok)
The Dead Milkmen
The Groovie Ghoulies
The Ramones
The Dayglo Abortions ("Jim and Tammy Bakker/Were messengers of God and the Bank of America...")
The Insane Clown Posse (political punk that sounds like rap, go fig!)
Chumbawumba (political punk that sounds like disco, same deal!)
Einsturzende Neubauten for the sheer noisecore value
the early Beastie Boys (and even some of their later stuff -- political punk that sounds like electronica!)

Most of the rest of my music collection is a pretty mixed bag -- I've got everything from a hand-built "25 Years of Disco" mix (includes Blur, Rammstein, and Hadiqa Kiani) to Bollywood music, to industrial noise...and a lot of spoken word. Note to self: Get Panda to give back the Mumia Abu-Jamal disc...

8. Here's the punk groups I like:
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 02:29 AM by RandomKoolzip
Shit, it's a big list!

The term "punk" for me, includes a variety of styles, as you can guess...

The Minutemen (D. Boon, my hero)
The Saints (great bluesy austarlian punk)
76% Uncertain (legendary hardcore weirdos from Connecticut)
The Jam (not really hard-ass, but they're my alltime faves)
New Rob Robbies (Colorado power pop with SST connections)
The Misfits (of course)
Wire (the original art-punks)
The Big Boys (Austin eclectics from the early 80's)
The Germs (invented Hardcore)
Karate (emo verging on jazz)
Squirrel Bait (very ahead of their time and melodic/bluesy)
The Rotters (Sit on my face!)
Verbal Assault (Esp. the "On" ep from 89)
New Bomb Turks (esp. the "Drunk on Cock" EP)
Essential Logic (check 'em out!)
Mars (Early NY No Wave)
ISM (early NY hardcore-into-garage/power-pop with Fugs covers)
Braid (very hard-driving but eclectic emo)
Mineral (see above)
Alternative TV (very odd britpunks)
The Descendents (of course
Honor Role (Carolina emo progenitors, heyday 85-87)
Simply Saucer (pre-punk stooge/Syd worship, from 74, awesome)
7 Seconds (just the early stuff, though)
Dag Nasty (just the early stuff, though)
Samiam (esp. the first album and "You Are Freaking Me Out")
Lightnting Bolt (awe-inspiring noise/hardcoe duo)
The Records (amazing power pop from late 70's Britain)
XTC (the first four records)
The Suburbs (early stuff on TwinTone; very spazzy)
Television (everybody knows who they are)
Bad Brains (them too)
High Rise (japanese noisecore, like Blue Cheer on bad speed)
The Meatmen (the original politically incorrect punkers)
everybody who was ever on SST
and about 799,452,906 more...

As you can guess, most epitath-style punk leaves me pretty bored...it's pretty monochromatic stuff, IMHO.

11. for me
Dead Kennedys (almost too much)
Ramones
Misfits
The Vandals
Fugazi
Black Flag
MC5 (punk?)
The Stooges

Call me nostalgic, it's hard for me to get into anything very recent.

Although I like to find weird and obscure stuff like Balzac (japanese band who did an album with Jerry Only), and local acts.

Sex Pistols; Monkees of punk!!! Couldn't have said it better myself!!
