Ok, I'll reword and try again
Should some undisclosed weather phenomenon that may or may not have happened before, and could possibly happen again damage or otherwise negatively affect your home or other area home-like designated area - when you fix or repair any unforseeable incidental weather damage - it could be wise to look at options that are designed to withstand said unforeseeable weather patterns should they happen again.

2. Umm, maybe
Me, I am building with shot-crete soon. Have seen several pictures of neighborhoods flattened by, um, various weather phenomenon, save for one home, the one made differently.

And caves are nice.

16. Shotcrete is the sprayed on concrete like used for massive tunnels,
water parks, big indoor arenas...

It is also available for home construction. Fast homes, great flexibility. Foam core panels with rebar and metal mesh are put up for the walls (on footings). You can cut openings for doors, windows, wiring conduits, etc, with hand saw, router, any simple cutting device. Make any funky shape you want, any ol place you want it.

Walls & ceiling/roof then sprayed in at one time with concrete, inside and out. There are some sites with pictures of whole blocks of homes flattened from storms and the lone standing one is shotcrete. Hubby has the links on his browser, but I don't go there. His filing system makes me :scared:. Here is a link that I found on with google that sorta explains how the construction works.
http://www.quotaserv.com/shotcrete-construction.htm

Used a lot for a long time in Europe. Works well to blend new buildings into old established style because of the flexibility. You can also put in color pigments so you don't have to paint it.

We are gonna do it to look like traditional stucco covered adobe. We are getting on in years and will want to get our retirement home up in a reasonably short time frame. We will be able to do most of the work ourselves with this method, which suits me well.

Also used for making 'wine cellars', large public buildings and arenas. Interesting stuff when you start looking into it online.

6. If I ever have to rebuild, my home is going to have a steel frame and this
new building system/substance called Grancrete.

Read about it here:
http://www.techtransfer.anl.gov/docs/Grancrete%20R&D100.pdf

This stuff would be great for the areas that the hurricanes devastated last year. It is cheaper and apparently very strong.

8. Chose your poison, so to speak
hurricanes, tornados, floods, drought, earthquakes, crowds, dust, hot, cold, mosquitos, etc. Build what works where you are. Don't build on cliffs where the cliff might fall down. Don't build a glass house near a stoneblasting pit. Exactly.

9. If I built a house on a flood plain,
it would only take me a maximum of 2 losses to get a clue that it might be smart to move.

But then, that's just me.

17. I liked your other thread better
The other one was honest and full of righteous - and true - bile.

Much better than this toned down piece of shit.

Hey - hurricane people - you know what? I'm fucking tired of your constant yearly pissing and whining that shit's blowing all the hell over in your backyard, and then crying to the north to bail you the hell out, yet again.

Screw it.

Whatever pain you choose, you need to live with. if you want to live in a hurricane alley, then so be it. You can complain if your house burns down, or gets hit by a space shuttle, or a meteor, or giant lizards smash it. BUt if it is damaged by a hurricane, shut the fuck up.

I'm tired tired tired of every fucking summer the news constantly focusing on the hurricane damage.

Sweet Jesus, if it bothers you that much, fuckin' move.
