did anyone else suffer through "a life aquatic"
and if you did, please explain to me what i'm not 'getting'

i still haven't finished it... i fell asleep half through...

don't get me wrong... i dug wes anderson's other flicks... i loved 'the royal tenenbaums' & 'rushmore' was fine...

but this... this... ugh!

what was the secret 'inside joke' comedy that is still a mystery/misery to me?

such promise with a cast like that

:wtf:

3. It was torture. I felt so uncool that I didn't get it.
Just came back from seeing Hithhiker's Guide. A waste of a buck.

4. Rushmore was one of the worst movies I ever saw and Bill Murray
hasn't done anything worthy since his old "Lounge Lizard" days on SNL. He is so way over rated, I just don't understand it. I guess he's just lucky.

we left the theater before it was over, we were going to try to tough it out as we laid down the big bucks, but it was just too awful

11. Obviously the whole thing is a spoof of Cousteau.
I think that during the Sixties, the unexplored realm of the ocean floor was something that was being romanticized by Cousteau. There was talk of habitats being built for human civilizations under the sea. If you look at Cousteau's early under water films, they similar to the mood that "life Aquatic" tries to capture. Plus most of the shots were done near or around dusk, the so called "magic hour", to give them a romantic flare. The scene of the awards ceremony was shot in a location reminiscent of Monte Carlo, also very romantic. It's kind of like James Bond meets Cousteau meets Richard Branson. I loved "Life Aquatic", but I have always lived near the ocean and the marine environment has a special place in my heart.

12. I didn't care for "Rushmore" all that much...
...but I think that Murray's performance was one of the better things about that film. His character was *supposed* to be despicable, and I think he pulled it off brilliantly.

15. I loved it
although I can't explain why. It's all the obvious but unstated, dry humor that always gets me.

I loved it.
It was a great movie.

It was the story of how self-actualized people deal with spiritual angst.
