band names I really, really like:
Cradle of Filth
Garbage
Tank
GWAR

And I'm so out of the loop, I can't think of any more, but a few weeks ago when I was with my niece and nephew, they played some music for me from bands with names that I translated for them, since my niece nad nephew aren't the swiftest people in the world and had no idea what the latin/hebrew/greek roots of some of the band names were.

Wish to hell I could remember - one of them I was really, really impressed with.

Fuck.

Its from a line from the movie "The Hot Rock". When I was younger and thinking of starting a band and I was going to use that name but these guys took it.

51. "Hell"
In the afterlife
You could be headed for the serious strife
Now you make the scene all day
But tomorrow there’ll be hell to pay

People listen attentively
I mean about future calamity
I used to think the idea was obsolete
Until I heard the old man stamping his feet.

This is a place where eternally
Fire is applied to the body
Teeth are extruded and bones are ground
Then baked into cakes which are passed around.

Beauty, talent, fame, money, refinement
Top skill and brain
But all the things you try to hide
Will be revealed on the other side.

Now the d and the a and the m
And the n and the a
And the t and the i-o-n
Lose your face, lose your name
Then get fitted for a suit of flame

8. actually it is a Fleetwood Mac song
Black Magic Woman was written and originally performed by Peter Green (possibly the greatest white blues player ever) and the original Fleetwood Mac, a british Blues Band. Later on, two members of the original band---Mick Fleetwood and John McVie with a few others moved to the US and hooked up with Stevie Nicks and Linsey Buckingham and recorded pop records

12. I give up ~ you're right about this one Santana only recorded it

I got a Black Magic Woman.
I got a Black Magic Woman.
Yes, I got a Black Magic Woman,
She's got me so blind I can't see;
But she's a Black Magic Woman and
she's trying to make a devil out of me.

Don't turn your back on me, baby.
Don't turn your back on me, baby.
Yes, don't turn your back on me, baby,
Don't mess around with your tricks;
Don't turn your back on me, baby,
'cause you might just wake up my magic sticks.

23. my old band used to play this
but Peter Green style, with a rideout jam on Otis Rush's "Keep on Loving Me"

a bad ass song. I have many versions, but there is a live version on one CD with a twin guitar jam with green and danny kirwan tearing it up that is mind boggling

39. Yes! Let's hear it for Peter Green!
You're absolutely right in your assessment. For tone, touch and passion, he's unbeatable. Clapton? Paah! Saw PG a couple of years ago and he still has the power to crease you up inside.

10. LOL!
Both great names; Gay Cowboys was named after our drummer, who came to us one day despondent because he was in his Dad's tool box and founf a video called "Gay Cowboys In Bondage"! After we laughed for about 2 hours we decided to change our names to that and write a Punk Opera around the storyline of our drummer's sad stale. I think we performed it 3 times...

19. throw in some okko maybe?
early 70s, dutch funky sitar with moog/clavinette, funky bass. instrumental heavily beatles influenced.

has an album entitled "sitar and electronics."

weird aside: there's a station in chicago that plays old progressive/glam/tyrannosaurus rex (acoustic, pre-electric warrior days) in the 2 to about 4 am timeslot.

the first time i ever heard tyrannosaurus rex, hawkwind, and steeleye span on the radio.

maybe they did that a lot 30 years ago, but it was pretty cool

So they changed their name. Now they're called Tan As Fuck.
