How do people who don't know you well perceive you?
I'm talking "real life"
Can you sum it up in one short sentence?

I'm the tall goofy girl with all the hair.

Who are you?

1. The quiet one who doesn't say much. People also tell me to 'smile' a lot.
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 07:49 AM by GOPisEvil
I'm in a perfectly happy mood on the inside, but apparently, on the outside, I look like I'm upset or sad.

People ask me: "Why doesn't GOPisEvil cheer up?" :hi:

Not really. But they DO ask me "What's wrong?" or "Cheer up!" when I'm actually feeling just fine.

27. that's because I already felt as if I had friends at DU
when I was a young adult in the late 60's I worked as a waitress in a busy upscale bar/lounge ... I can remember other cocktail waitresses complaining about the men patting them on the ass ~ I never had that problem ~ I have always projected an unapproachable manner to people that I don't know well

When I met you in Boston it was the first time since 12/26/01 that I've been around more than a very small handful of people at one time. I actually started my withdrawal from society in 1995 after a neck injury that left me with severe headaches 24/7. I picked a good bunch of people for my return to the real world when I met everyone on Friday night. I was in town a day earlier so the first DUer that I met was Will Pitt.

but ... bottom line ~ I've had more than one person tell me that I am the most "alone" person they've ever met

33. mine too ~ I honestly have to push myself to be around other people
the evidence to back that up is very clear when I look at my posting times at DU. I connect with people on this site more than I ever have with people in the past... which is why after posting with some DUers I want to meet them in real time if it's possible because I've gotten over some of my shyness ... BTW I've also been told that I hide my feelings very well so some of the time that I appear to be self-assured I'm actually quaking in my boots

32. Hmmmm....funny and perky are words I get a lot.
I'm pretty average looking, but people are usually impressed with my extreme in-your-face friendliness if I like you, and complete standoffishness if I get bad vibes from you.

People know where they stand with me from minute 1. I'm a very "out there" person, as far as my moods are concerned. No hiding anything.

And I'm the ballsy one wearing obnoxiously liberal shirts in the middle of freeperland just to annoy freepers. I get off on the hostility.

71. Scary
That's the usual response. Tats, multiple piercings, a tendency to dye my hair weird colours. I usually wear cargo pants that I've cut up to make em comfortable, a ratty holey T-shirt, and flip flops.

I was smoking in my parents' backyard (can't smoke inside) and my mom had a friend over - she asked my mom why was there a homeless man in her backyard and should they call the police (I heard it).

A girl I knew told me she had always wanted to be friends but was afraid I'd kill her, chop her up in pieces, etc.

Me! Mr. Sensitive! Mr. Fluffy Bunny! Mr. I'll cry at the drop of a Kleenex! And people (lots of them) are terrified of me. Seriously. I'm totally nonplussed.

But I guess scary is the right description. I'm not a serial killer, I just play one in other peoples' perceptions.

Khash.

And then, like you, progmom, there's the hair thing, too.

But in reality, who I am has little to do with how others see me. Coinky-dinks happen.

Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 11:52 AM by tenshi816
when I'm really very shy and lacking in confidence.

Also, I'm another woman known as "the one with the boobs". Men talk to my chest a lot, which is kind of funny since I'm only 5'3" and most people already have to look down to talk to me.

Edited to take out a couple of words.

78. Yeah, it's weird, isn't it?
I'm an only child so I've always been comfortable being alone, but for me the result of having no siblings is that I was an incredibly quiet and shy child. Somewhere along the way it changed and people started viewing me differently, as a gregarious social animal.

As an adult, when I'm with people I'm comfortable with, I am talkative and confident, but I have to suss out any new social situation to get a feel for it before I open up (or not, as the case may be). Even if I appear completely relaxed and chatty on the outside, on the inside I'm still that shy little girl I used to be.

77. I seem to have 2 personas
either "does she ever talk?" or "does that loon ever shut up?!"

The latter seems to come out in small groups or one on one. The former is reserved for larger groups or in some cases, people I don't know well.

99. This is funny
They think I'm a social extrovert and well grounded.

That's not me, but rather just what they perceive me to be. The truth is I'm painfully shy around strangers, but I refuse to leave someone else sitting looking lonely. As for the well grounded thing, I'm a dreamer who seldom removes her head from the clouds.
