2. None at all?
Not even school board kind of stuff?

We've got some local and state ballot proposals to vote on. That and an effort to keep some real weirdo fundies off the school board. Husband and wife, yecch....

6. Voted in Ohio
One Zell Miller democrat did not get a vote from me. He will be reelected; he's unopposed. I just don't think a Democratic councilman should go to the Republican mayor's victory party even if he is his best friend.

Issue 1: NO
Local school levy: YES

8. I voted when the polls opened at 7:00
Western PA. I was voter number 11. Except for a couple of judgeships, these were all very local elections. Some offices had only one candidate, a couple had no candidates at all--anyone want a job as Weshington County assessor? District attorney candidate Pettit was unopposed and listed as a Democratic/Republican. I didn't vote for him--he's a sleaze.

9. No elections in Wisconsin today
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 11:33 AM by RatTerrier
They seem to be spread out.

State Rep. Gary George was recalled a few weeks ago (he's a sleazy carpetbagger who represents Milwaukee's inner city and owns a $400,000 lakefront home in a different county).

The Milwaukee Mayor's election is in April, with quite a few people looking to replace the outgoing John Norquist. Here's a link to the candidates for you Milwaukeeans:

http://www.wispolitics.com/index.iml?Article=3082

The race is non-partisan. No party platforms.

Tom Barrett is one of the most recognizeable names on the list, due to his service in US Congress (as a Dem). But his web site and issues are vague.

Sandy Folaron is the only one I see who mentions environmental concerns (the beaches here are unusable). Many of the candidates cite crime, taxes and economic development as key issues, but they are fuzzy as to how to accomplish things. Concil President Marvin Pratt claims that his top reason to vote for his is because he reinstated prayer before council meetings: http://www.marvinpratt.com/26reasons.htm (ummmmm... next!)

The election's next April, and I hope these candidates can get their act together and have a game plan. From what I've seen, I like Folaron, but have never heard of her before I did my research. So likely has no chance of winning against a former US Rep, the police chief, county sherrif, an alderman, the council president and a judge.

10. How I voted
I flipped the switches, then pulled the lever. Stepped out when the curtain opened.

Sorry, I don't even tell my wife even though she knows my positions on everything and every candidate. It's a quirk.

11. Good for you
My mom was the same way.

Myself, I'm proud to have voted against a couple of book-burners looking to be on the school board. Also voted against the expansion of gaming in our fine state. And voted for a new school in our little town.

Oh, and voted for a measure that would shift around property taxes. My analysis is my own taxes would go up, but I'm a proud tax-and-spend liberal. :)

14. I vote alone.
At about 8 a.m., I voted for state and local races. Local Dem's got the vote because they're doing a good job. State Dem's got the vote to return them to office and keep out the foreign (RNC) influence.

BUT ... no one else voted while I was there. Four districts were represented in the school gym, every table was fully staffed, but I was the only voter present the entire time that I was there. The woman who signed me in told me that I was number 5 from my district.

16. Nuttin to vote for in my suburb this year.
No mayor, no at-large county council, no school board, not even a dog catcher to vote for this year.

Just wait till next May, I suppose.

17. After I go to vote, I'm going directly to school,
so I'll just check in now. My big thing this election is Prop 841, I think that's what it is. The state's business fat-cats want to roll back workplace ergonomic laws, because it's too expensive for them to look after the health and well-being of their employees. Anything that cuts into their profits is a bad thing, of course. I'm voting "no" on the repeal of the laws, and I hope every other Washingtonian will too.

22. Voted in my nonpartisan local California city
All of our local races (board of supervisors, mayor, city council, school board, etc) are considered nonpartisan, so the candidates political parties aren't mentioned anywhere on the ballots or political literature, and it's rare for the candidates themselves to bring it up. For all I know, I just voted for a bunch of Republicans

The theory is that this methodology forces the voters to select their candidates based on their positions on the issues, not just because they belong to party X or party Y. It's a good theory, but it presents problems when our candidates are vague on the issues (a situation we had this election...two unknowns running for one city council seat, and both of them ran campaigns shouting "Vote for me! I'm the best!" without ever really touching on the issues...who do you vote for in that situation?)
