I think the tail on the baby is an optical illusion.

15. Longest tail in the medical literature? 20cm
a medical abstract from :http://www.coccyx.org/medabs/islam.htm

Abstract

An interesting case of a child with a tail is reported. The child had a tail like structure in the back since birth, increasing with age. It was 20 cm. long, the longest tail so far described in the English literature. There was no functional complaint. The result was excellent after excision as the problem was only cosmetic.

heres some more cool medical abstracts about this :

17. First time I've seen a picture of that kind of thing,
but I've read that while uncommon, it does happen sometimes. There was something in the book of world records for longest tail a child was born with. Can't remember how long, but meh.

Baby with tail attracts Hindu devotees
Published 1/11/2002 5:07 PM

NEW DELHI, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Thousands of people across India are flocking to Hindu temples to see a Muslim baby -- born with what appears to be a tail -- who is said to resemble the monkey-faced god Hanuman.

23. Well, in fetal development, we ALL have tails.
Then they absorb into our bodies in normal development.

Didn't I read that high school biology or something?

25. yep
Yes, they do recede. And when they dont fully recede there is often some kind of dermitits or acne disorder around the area where the tail recedes.

I read about this in the PUBMED link I posted up thread a bit.
