According to yesterday's Salon article, if you're in college and you get called up, you get to finish the semester out and then you're in the military. No Dick Cheney-style deferments this time, apparently.

Go without washing for awhile and let some painful cysts and boils build up in uncomfortable marching/foxhole squatting zones.

I don't mean to make light of your situation; I have a son myself. Can you seriously come up with some health problems to establish a medical track record right now? I have asthma, I would think that it could be pretty easy to fake.

Anything along these lines?

You can file for that status, if you start NOW and write a few letters to the editor, or whatnot, to get on record as being a pacifist and opposed to war. If the draft comes, and you say you're a C.O., you'll be taken a lot more seriously if you can point to past history.

I think the best part of my 27th birthday was becoming ineligible for the draft. I'd gladly volunteer to take up arms in a legitimate war for peace or to defend the USA, but not in any PNAC operation.
