I had my AOL account shut down for this post:
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 06:32 PM by A HERETIC I AM
"brb - I have to pee like Karl Rove as he laughs off accusations that he is a FUCKING TRAITOROUS SON-OF-A-BITCH!!"

This was in an Atheism chatroom that i have been a regular of for almost 7 years!

I thought it funny and it fit well with the folks i have come to know in that chatroom but some fundy dickweed rethug with no sense of humor found that offensive and fucking sent an alert to AOL!!! What a nimrod!
Of course, i had to call Bangalore and speak to "Sophia" in order to get a new password. It bugs me that my call to an 888 number sends me across the planet, but there you go.

AOL SUCKS!!!!!!!

(I know AOL SUCKS!!!!! Please don't tell me how much it sucks, I KNOW!!!!!! I use it because i travel so much and they have a local dial-up server almost everywhere that i can call from my hotel room for free.)

If anyone knows of an ISP that is as well covered as AOL, please clue me. I know about NetZero but they still don't have the network AOL does and since this laptop is such an antique, i cant take advantage of wireless or Ethernet services. I am occasionally able to use my companies High-Speed Satellite hookup but for the most part, i am stuck with this 2000 vintage Compaq using a dial-up and Windows 98!!!!!

1. If it's a public chat room that anyone can enter
even if it's user create - then they scan for that stuff.

A decent shitstirring every once in a while is necessary, i think.

5. I'd love to, but like i said, they have a local, dial-up server in almost
every 2 horse, podunk town across this land and I NEED MY DU!!!!!!!!!!

I concede that it might have been their own software that did me in but i have said MUCH worse in that room with no prob.

6. Being without it might cut my internet access by a third.
Like i said, if anyone knows an ISP that has as many local servers, please clue me in! Dialing out of a local area from a hotel can get pricey.

7. You have hit on a gold mine
People are always complaining about how to get RID of AOL, and how hard it is to do.. Getting THEM to terminate you seems to be the easier way :) Congrats..

My friend had to call her CC company and lie to them (told them she lost her card so they would issue her a new number) AOL would NOT stop billing her account, even after she cancelled the account:evilgrin:

Your way is easier and more fun too :)

9. Believe it or not, Caroline Online is pretty
much worldwide as far as their access numbers for dialup. Their home page is at:
www.carolina.net

You can get an idea of how many areas you can call from with them here:
https://ebill.carolina.net/pop/setupphone.asp

I never get a busy signal either and there are thousands of us in my hometown using COL.

16. You're welcome
Like I said, they only have one access number for my hometown, but we all use it and busy signals and problems like that get solved in a jiffy if they do happen and you email them. We very rarely have problems though. They used to list all the numbers they have for access on one page and it included Brazil and Puerto Rico to name a couple. Then that page got too big and now they use the search function to find numbers.

Has as many d/u #'s as AOL. I use it at company facilities where I can't get wifi.

15. I was like you. Hanging onto an ancient machine, at the mercy of
aol and netzero. Then I bought a two year old dell laptop with a an ugly scratch on the hardshell for 350 from a computer tech geek. Spent another 50 on a battery and 19 on a wifi card (best buys) Now I sign in at tmobile hotspots for 19 bucks a month or steal some signal now and then. Its a new world.

22. As I write this i am listening to an awesome WFMU archived stream,
with a cup of tea in a starbucks (whores I know...)I just checked out the online video of that skateboarder jumping the great wall of china and getting plenty of work done. The good thing about buying from a computer geek is they will hook you up with bookoo sofware. Sure I use mozilla as a browser but I gotta admit the newest version of windows and word smoke, especially after windows 98 and word2000. GO FOR IT.
