It wasn't a shoplifter that got bagged while browsing at a Saugus computer store -- it was a 3-foot long lizard.

NewsCenter 5's Jack Harper reported that a Savannah monitor, indigenous to Africa, slithered into a Saugus store

"They don't know where he came from," PJ Pets spokesman Shelley Evris said.

The problem is the lizard was probably about 4 inches when he was bought. It could reach about 5 feet.

"You know what, people have these animals as pets all the time, and it's not unusual. It could have come from anywhere -- the hotel behind us, a residential area, somebody could have dropped him off in the parking lot," Rainforest Reptile spokesman Mike Ralbovsky said.
