A lesson hard learned.... |

Okay..we had been warned but we didn't listen. We thought we knew better and it wouldn't happen to us. We bought our five year old a mini lop bunny a few weeks ago from an auction. They weren't breeders, they just had pet rabbits that "accidentally" bred. Yeah, well, it didn't take long for the rabbit to develop wry neck (probably the entire herd was infected). We've spent the last two weeks running back and forth to the vet getting the poor thing injected with steroids, and finally tonight the poor little thing died. Now I have three kids that cried themselves to sleep tonight, and I'm staring at an empty cage, crying myself. Stupid! Stupid! Never ever EVER buy a potential pet at an auction. I don't care how "reputable" the auction outfit is, just don't do it. Farewell little Fritz. You weren't with us long, and your time was rough...but we loved you little buddy.

My wife and I bought--and subsequently accidentally killed--about half a dozen goldfish trying to give our two year old son his first pet. Our son never knew about the carnage. As far as he was concerned, we only had one fish that just kept changing slightly day by day. Finally we told him that the fish had just been visiting and it was time for him to go home. Heavy sigh.
I'm sorry about your rabbit. Big hugs to you and your kids.

My five year old is devastated...she just keeps saying " I don't understand". Heartwrenching.
