Help me make a decision about my hair.
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 11:13 PM by Ariana Celeste
I was bored today so I thought, hell, why not highlight my hair.

Even though I've never highlighted hair before, I did it anyways. :o

The directions just made it look so damn easy, I thought, why wait for the man to get home and beg him to do it, and then wait until the next day to ask my neighbor instead since the man doesn't trust himself with my hair... why not just do it myself.

So I did it myself. :7

It's not like, hang my head in shame bad. It's just kind of uneven. And I didn't quite get my roots as well as I thought I did.

It just looked so easy with the handy little plastic brush thing!! :(

So what shall I do? Buy another highlight kit and have my neighbor friend help me make it even tomorrow evening, or buy a thing of black hair dye and quickly cover up the damned mess I've made of my head? (Like I said, it's not *that* bad, I'm just horribly self conscious.)

edited for spelling mistake

1. More highlights. Black hair dye is SO much more obvious!

6. Wonder how much that costs.
Never gotten my hair done by a professional, always did it myself or with the help of a friend.

If it's over $20 to fix what I have started, then I just can't do it.

10. Take it from one who obviously knows from hair hue modification:
Call the company that made the product and tell them it didn't turn out as expected. They are quite knowledgeable and helpful.

I dyed from very dark brown to blonde the first time--myself. I called the L'Oreal people in tears, and the lady was as nice and helpful and understanding as she could be.

Listen carefully to what they tell you; the solution may indeed be less than twenty.

12. Closer to $100
To "fix" it.

Adding more highlights will run you about $70 (large NE city prices).

7. Difficult to say
Choice 1: get a professional to redo it.

Choice 2: Black hair dye, obvious, amateur and for some reason very sexy...

I vote for choice 2 but if you have good sense you'll take choice 1.

9. I'm really thinking black.
I've been dying my hair black for so long, everyone I know thinks it's my natural hair color. Of course I've only lived here for a year and a half. But still, :7!

It only looks painfully obviously fake for the first couple of weeks. Then it has faded a little bit and I'm back to looking normal.

It helps that my natural color is dark brown. Shit, I haven't had my natural color in about 7 years.

(Sense = meh, not so good. ;))

8. dye the side of your face
No one will notice the unevenness on your hair.

If you think I'm kidding, I'm not. My friend did this. It worked.

11. Take it easy
You yourself say that it's not so bad. Which means it is probably okay.

Take a deep breath, and try to live with it for a few days, and see how you feel. RESIST THE URGE to take drastic action!!!!!!!!!

DO NOT cover it up with dark dye, for heaven sakes! Bad bad bad bad.
If you decide to see a pro, be cautious. Believe it or not, but even in the hands of a pro you CAN still end up worse that you are at the moment. Pick someone good and be prepared to pay.

If you really really really hate it, try something less drastic. Try softening the effect with a Revlon FanciFul hair rinse roux -- it is the most temporary of effective "stains" to tone if down without risking more hair dye madness. It lasts shampoo to shampoo.

13. well
every girl at one time or another does something like you did today. My daughter tried to lighten her hair and it turned out orange. She sucked it up until she could afford a professional fix. I one time got my hair cut so short that when my daughter who was 4 at the time saw me, she started crying. It happens. I guess see what your husband says. If it is really bad, he might give the the extra funds to fix it. If not, put your hair in a ponytail until you can afford a fix. I don't think I would mess with another amateur fix though. Good luck!
