WOMEN: How much money does a guy need to make for you to have his baby?
I am a feminist in the sense that I grew up believing Norman Lear shows the way previous generations believed the Bible, but I've noticed in reality, women are looking for a guy who makes at least as much as them if not more.

You don't have to tell me if the guy needs to make more than you; just put a dollar figure that you would be comfortable with a guy making before you'd think about having a family with him.

1. More Than You Can Possibly Imagine
Think of the largest number you can imagine. Now add One to it. Double it. Double it again.

You're not even close. There isn't enough money in the entire universe in all of time for me to have a baby.

2. Geez, another "women are golddiggers" thread
It wouldn't take a fucking dime. I don't need someone else's money. I'm a grown woman and can earn it for myself. I'm with my husband because I love him, not because I need his cash. :eyes:

3. I know plenty of women that make more than their hubbies!
Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 05:45 AM by NewJeffCT
I joke with my wife that I lose face every time she gets together with her friends, as I'm the only husband that makes more than his wife in the group...(she has one female friend that is a cardiologist whose husband has a fairly high level IT job, but I'm guessing makes a fraction of what she makes... another friend of hers is an executive at a large NY corporation, while her husband is an engineer. A good job, but he makes less than half what she makes...)

edited to add - and, if we stay on the same track, my wife will surpass me in another year or two.

I'm childless by choice. (But I'd adopt another cat for free.)

25. Great, now I'm jealous.
I'm only once-sterilized. My insurance plan started covering tubals the same month Dim Son took office, so I saw that as a sign from my god that I better get sterilized now before it became impossible to procure birth control.

Once sterilized, but hopefully just as bullet-proof.

9. Why does money come into the equation?
Obviously, there needs to be enough family income to feed/clothe/etc. But, no where during planning our family did the "how much money does he make" thought come into it. i thought about whether he'd be a good father (which he is), how a child would fit into our life (quite well), but money wasn't really an issue.

Yes, the things that go along with having a baby cost money, but you can find great deals on cribs, car seats, etc. Or, co-sleep and you don't even need a crib. Always make sure that what ever you buy meets current federal safety standards, though.

My thought is if you're using money in the equation, there is something else going on keeping you from having kids with this man.

10. My boyfriend is currently unemployed.
He does have some assets but no current income. He's returning to school in the fall, so he'll actually be losing money.
But if I accidentally got pregnant (which we are taking precautions to avoid, so this is probably moot at this point), we'd probably raise the child. So, it would follow that a man has to be making zero dollars a year for me to have his baby.

In other words -- this is irrelevant. I don't care if a man makes good money, as long as together we can support our child.

26. So's my husband
and we both agree - childfree by choice. See, that's what I was looking for in a partner - his thoughts, his feelings, his goals, NOT his f*cking money. I hate these threads. :grr:

Your money (or lack of same) is not the reason women run, screaming, when you make an offer.

Check your attitude.

:eyes: Heads up, we don't NEED a man to support us OR our children. And we tend to hate it when you men give yourselves more credit than you're worth.

That was my husband's income when I got pregnant and we got married. We were both students. He got a p/t job, finished school, and I worked full time. It's about the person, not the money. :eyes:

22. When I married my husband...
Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 07:39 AM by SarahBelle
He was in school and detailed cars for a living at an auto dealership. We had nothing, but I loved him. I just divorced him last year after 14 years despite the fact we have children and he makes plenty of money and has quite a good career now. My divorce makes my life money-wise much more rough (with careful planning, we were able to afford for me NOT to work outside the home for a number of years while married), but I did it anyway. Why? Because I could no longer stand being snapped at by a man who cannot emotionally connect to me. Because I could no longer stand a man who couldn't function without just a little bit of some sort of substance (take your pick) just to detach enough to avoid feeling stuff the past 7 years.

Money is nothing. Self-respect and dignity is everything. I went into my divorce completely alone with the thought I'd probably be alone for years (which was fine and probably necessary to think as such), but I had to do it. I don't just talk the talk. I want the walk in a very concrete way.

I'm attracted to more than a man's wallet. The Bush family has a bunch of money but that doesn't mean I'd let any of the men in it touch me. Besides just look at how most of those kids have turned out. Money doesn't make one a good parent.
