As long as they are bigger than mine, and the whole package works together, great.

The fact is, each guy does have a range of what's acceptable for looks, and certain other things. The difference is, we are willing to say it.

Women seem to hate discussing their criteria in mixed company, but they will act on them.

I expect people to feel free to be a bit more blunt online since people's feeling aren't likely to be hurt, but it still seems to push some buttons rather than get an honest response.

I appreciate the women who said they married or date unemployed, or underemployed guys. I would like to believe there are a significant number of those women out there, and I've met some personally.

I am a little biased because I live in LA, the capital of using relationships as a means to an end, not an end in itself, which definitely skews the market.

Even in this post of yours now, which I would think you would take as an opportunity to address those who considered your OP in the other thread sexist. Instead, you slough it all off, and say you "would like to believe there are a significant number of those women out there"...

Honestly, do you really expect to get responses from women who are like what you described at a progressive site like this? Did you see one respond to you on that thread? Why did you post it... personal experience? Frustration? Lashing out at all women because of your own personal experience? Try a little restraint and remember your audience.

I prefer to believe that the world is more like that 70s, equality model, but it's reasonable to ask questions about how deeply that idea actually penetrated our society or can.

The same should be true of our religious, political, or scientific ideas. However nice it sounds in theory, you have to actually see if the data supports. Communism sounds like a great idea, but I think conservatives are on to something when they say taking away the profit motive takes away too much motivation. When the right says pure capitalism and markets are self-correcting, that seems to have a certain internal logic until you look closely at the facts and see that without government intervention it devolves into oligarchy and monopolies.

You have to be able to distinguish between what you want to be true and what is actually out there. I like the feminist ideal.

And my question wasn't meant as an accusation either, but a simpler matter of fact--not just how much does a family have to make but how much does a guy have to have to put in the pot.

That should be no more offensive than asking how much you can weigh and still be a ballerina if you are five feet tall.

If someone wants to make it an accusation and claim it means women are shallow, fine. The same can be said of guys, and I'm sure I've passed up some Mother Theresas because they looked like her as well as had her character.


I don't know what time zone you're in, but there were no responses when I went to bed here in CA at 2 am.

You can write a hundred more paragraphs of unrelated rationalization to try to explain why you asked that question and it won't change the effect.

If this is an issue that has been discussed here ad nauseum, I didn't know that.

I think people are uncomfortable with these questions because there is no right answer, not in the moral relativism sense, but not an answer that works.

I think there are a handful of issues that if you touch them in anyway people go apeshit. This is one. Daycare is another. For people outside DU, I get that response if I say anything bad about SUVs.

Theoretically, no honest question should be offensive.

If you think my version was loaded, reword it so it's less so but still gets people's attention.
