1. I'll be cremated. My ashes will be scattered.
And I'm making that quite clear in my will. I'm not saddling my survivors with ridiculously onerous funeral expenses.

Arlington Cemetary has a plot for me, believe it or not. But I'd just as soon be cremated.

7. I want to will my body to the Body Farm....
Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 06:57 AM by KzooDem
But my family and partner will have none of that. I had always said I'd rather be thrown in the woods and rot than be drained, stuffed and processed and propped up in a casket. When I learned about the Body Farm, I thought it might be a possibility. (For those who don't know about the Body Farm, it's a place in TN where they lay out dead bodies so forensic pathologists can study rates of decay, l;earn to determine times of death, etc...)

I'd choose cremation, except it's sort of a controversial choice for Jews. So, I have decided upon a very traditional Jewish burial: be taken from place of death, no embalming, be wrapped in a palin white burial cloth and placed in a plain, rough-hewn pine box, and buried within 24 hours of my death.

14. Me Too.
Every since I read about the Body Farm years ago, that's what I wanted to have happen to my remains. I figure it's the ultimate in recycling, and you get to help people in the process. However, like you, my family is appalled by the idea, and won't even consider it.

So it's probably going to be cremation for me.

But I think I'd rather be cremated and scattered over the land where I grew up.

13. Cremated
As cheaply as possible. I wouldn't mind being scattered somewhere beautiful, like the lake in northern Ontario where we took our vacations when I was a kid.

And I want tons of music at my funeral. And laughter, dammit. :P

15. This is a very timely topic for me.
I just got back from a long, drawn out, exhausting funeral that, even though it was planned by the deceased's daughters, was something that she probably would not have wanted!

I think I would like to have my ashes scattered off the coast of either Roatan, Honduras (if it is legal to take cremains out of the country) or southern Maryland. My life insurance policy could help pay for airfare for those who truly wanted to participate.

17. Cremated with send-off
since my preferred send-off is unfeasible (a combination New Orleans-Viking boat to Valhalla), I'll take the spreading of ashes somewhere, haven't decided where.

Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 08:16 AM by Shell Beau
after my brother died so we could all be buried together. However, now that I am married, I would like to be buried by my husband when the time comes (hopefully a long time from now)! No cremation for me.

22. My grandfather bought plots
There are enough for him, his wife, his children and their spouses, and several grandchildren. One of them is reserved for me (beside my dad), and last week I went ahead and ordered a footmarker for my plot.

23. Preferrably cremated,
but at my memorial ceremony, there will be mandatory drinking for adults and clowns. A drink to honor the good times, and laughter to remember how I lived my life, one laugh at a time.

Yes, I'm serious. It's in my will.

25. Cremated and spread around the pond behind the house.
For over 25 years my wife and i ( and usually at least a dozen cats )
have made that walk every evening ( weather permitting ), to sit at the table and watch the sun set.

Assuming I am in good health when my time comes, I am having my organs donated to those who need them. The rest of me will hopefully be cremated and scattered into the ocean at sunrise!

27. Donate as much as my body
that can be used and cremate the rest. Then scatter the ashes either at the top of Mt Washington or at Lonesome Lake, whichever my son would like.

But it beyond the donation part it really doesn't matter to me, whatever makes the ones still around happy.

28. I've let it be known that I want to be cremated
As it stands today, my parents will take care of that. They know I want to be cremated. My mother was kind enough to tell me "Since it looks like you will be single forever, you can have your ashes buried in my plot". That's my mama!..lol.
Things change fast in life, so I can't say for sure what will happen to my remains. Hell, I might even get married one of these days and then she can decide what to do with it all. Who knows?
I want cremation so I don't take up very much space. From what I understand they charge just as much for cremation as they do for typical burial. I could be wrong.

29. Definitely don't want to take up real estate
My preference would be to be fed to the tigers in the zoo, but it seems not to be allowed. Cremation will have to do.

Mix my ashes with itching powder and drop them down delegates' shirt collars at the 2036 Republican Convention.

30. Cremated, leave it up to the family what to do with me after that
I would like to be placed in the same cemetary as the last 7 generations of my family but unfortunately it is full. There is one unused plot left and that is for my uncle.

35. I have a plot in a small cemetery in Vermont
It's on a back road, very quiet and beautiful, surrounded by trees. My mother and several of my friends are buried there. It's an old cemetery too, with some stones dating back to the late 1700's.

I think I'll be very happy there.
