'Unification Day' just smacks of republican undertones. With a title like that its obviously an attempt to place anyone who may disagree with the current direction of politics as an outsider and pro-terrorism.
I say stick with a monument. Its not like there is a 'WWII day' or as 'Civil War Day' or a 'Spanish Influenza Day'. Just because people died, and dont mistake me, it was a horrible tragedy, doesn't mean we need another holiday. To many holidays and they loose their meaning.
Plus, having a holiday that will forever have anti-arab, anti-muslim overtones will do nothing to help promote peace in the future.
All in all a nice thought, but in the end a looser!

Holidays are for celebrations of things. Do we really want to celebrate what happened that day? It should be a solemn day of remembrance, but not of celebration. Can you imagine the Sears Sept. 11 White Sale? Having a Sept. 11 barbecue? And what would making it a national holiday mean? A day off work? The people who lost their lives that day were at work. We will not ever forget that day, and we will always quietly remember the peace that was shattered. Turning it into an excuse for a day off, and for a spectacular sale at the strip mall will only cheapen the memory.

who dreamed this thing up?? And I noticed (anal me, I would) that the petition says that: "...when not only our nation, but NATION'S around the world, joined together by pledging their support to eliminate terrorism on a global scale. " (cap emphasis mine) Whoever made this one up does not understand plurals apparently...
We may have had some global unity for about .02 seconds after 9/11, but Shrub squandered it all in record time.

Yeah it took some real "skill" and diplomacy to make all that good will evaporate so quickly. That alone should be sufficient to label Former Governer Bush as the worst chief executive this country as ever seen quite apart from the million other reasons to do so.

12. Holiday? As in day off? No thanks |
|
The last thing September 11th should turn into is a day for backyard barbeque's and planned vacations.

No way!
A holiday for people that where murdered? I don't think so it's a horrible tacky tacky way to honor those people! A day off of work like it's Christmas or something? What's next a 9-11 sale at Belks? :puke:
I'm sick of their deaths being used by people who support invasions of countries that had nothing to do with 9-11!
We honor them by letting them rest in peace.
We honor them by promoting peace not wars.

18. How about "Justification Day" |
|
As in, the Bushies will use this singel act to justify just about anything. I don't think it should be a holiday. I would just be a reminder of how grateful we should be that George is looking out for us--and fighting terra around the globe.

We'll have a good ole 9/11 BBQ. Everyone else, sign up for a side dish or a dessert. Nothing like a holiday! Anyone got some lawn darts?

27. Do we really need another holiday for people |
|
to spend at the mall? What happened on 9/11/01 was horrible but I don't think it deserves national holiday status. The change that was brought about as a result was negative and I don't want to celebrate that. I don't see a change in the culture, people are just as selfish and self centered as before.
For too long Americans were not subject to the terror that many European countries experienced regularly during the 1970s and 1980s, one event and people act as if the world came to an end.
Israelis would never work if they followed suit and designated as a holiday each day that there was a terrorist action.
